The Center for Bariatrics at Bailey Medical Center Bariatric Center
My first impression of Dr Katsis, He was knowledgable, Was highly recommended, and a trauma surgeon, I figured if he was a great trauma surgeon then He would be good for me since I knew I was going to have a lot of scar tissue from the old stapling done in 1981.
After surgery I would like for him to have spent a little more time with me, with more explaination of all that went on.
the Office staff has always been cordial, and his nurse Jana is very sweet and kind.
The thing that I liked least about him was that he wasn't there as much as I would have liked him to be following surgery to answer questions, But on the other hand, I understand he is a very busy dr and since I was not having any complications it was not necessary to be there as much. He did go over the needs post surgical, the office has aftercare meetings twice a month and patients are incouraged to call the office with any changes or problems.
Dr Katsis was frank and to the point, He understood that I knew death was a risk factor with this surgery, as it is with any surgery. Over all I would say that he is a VERY good surgeon and would and have recommended him to others. He is competent, and has a good bedside manner.
Dr. Katsis was hightly recommended to me by my previous surgeon who did not perform this type of surgery. He treated me with respect and took the time to answer my many questions. I felt confident with him performing the surgery. His office has a support group which meets twice a month. Anyone who is luckly enought to have him for their surgeon will receive excellent qualified care.
Dr. Katsis is an excellent surgeon. He is kind and compassionate and truly cares about his patients. He is a pleasure to work with. His office staff is excellent. They are very involved with each patient so you don't feel like a "number". There is nothing I don't like about Dr. Katsis. Future patients should know that he is a very skilled surgeon (General and Trauma) and has a wonderful personality and bedside manner. After care is highly important to him. The patients have a schedule of visits post op and when I did have a problem I was taken care of quickly. The risks are fully explained in the general public information meetings that they provide twice a month at their office. They are very open and receptive to questions/concerns. I would rate him EXCEPTIONAL. His surgical competence and bedside manner are unsurpassed.
My first impression was that he was very well informed and he did a two hour education meeting. The meeting was done just after a support group meeting , that way we pre op people could listen and ask questions of the post op.
My impression now is that he is a very caring person. He is very sensitive to the emotions and feelings of his patients. He has an incredible staff, they were there before the surgery to help with everything. It was very comforting and calming to see Stacy in the office every trip and then the last person I saw in the O R was Stacy, a wonderful familiar face. The staff and nurses have never failed to returns my calls, and they respond quickly and not several days later.
It is hard to say what I like least about him. I feel as though I owe him for my new extended life. The only thing I can find at all not to like is the fact that he is a trauma surgeion as well and sometimes (twice to be exact ) I have had to wait because of an emergency. But were I to have an emergency and require surgery I wouldnt want any other surgeon than him to perform it.
Future patients should know that he is doing more and more of these , and he is busier than he use to be , but I cant see any change in the quality of care. Just a fuller office and little longer waiting period.
Dr.Katsis and his staff are very particular about your post op care. I was in the hospital for 7 days . I had to see a dietician and the nursing staff frequently for the first 4 - 6 months.
He has a well structured aftercare and you can call any time and expect a prompt response.
I am sure that there were things that could have been better explained, but I have had incredible success. It is difficult for me to do anything other than sing praises for him and his nursing staff.
I did have some respiratory complications afer the surgery and I was in recovery for 24 hours and I never understood why I was in there for that long. Perhaps that is standard and if so I would have liked to known that. I guess the only thing that I have to say negative about any of the whole procedure is when you ask why did this happen the response that is frequently given is "It varies with each individual".
His over all rating along with his office and nursing staff is above and beyond excellence.
Dr. Steven Katsis is a very talented sugeon, and his bedside behavior is caring and concerned ( geniune concern ) and that is a combination that is needed and so very much appreciated , during a trying and frightening time in one's life.
I do realize that this has very few negative comments but the doctor and staff work very hard and go to seminars to insure that the bariatric surgery and after care is safe informative and complete to one's physical, mental, and emotional well being.

Have appt for consult Oct 22. Have already been approved for surgery,Pref Community Choice, and have Phycitrist approval hope to have surgery in March.
Met with Dr Katsis yesterday he was very nice and answered all my questions. The nurse that took my vital signs had the surgery 1 year earlier and was very positive about the doctors and the surgery itself. My appointment was at 3:30 and I was called back at 5:00 and left the office at 6:00. We talked about the patients that he had lost and the reasons behind it. I feel very confident that this is the right thing for me. I am also moving my surgery date up to January. I can hardly wait!
My husband and I met with Dr. Katsis on August 6th for the first time. He will doing both of our surgeries. He was wonderful with us. He went over our charts and explained the proceedure, and then spent almost an hour answering our questions and giving us more information. We were hoping for a date in August and he said that did not look like a problem barring any complications with our echo tests. His staff are all very warm and freindly, right down to the billing clerks. The only thing that we would improve would be the phone protocol at the office. It is rare to get to speak to anyone personally when you call. You always leave a message and wait for a call back, which can take from an hour to a day. Bariatric surgery has become a very busy industry and we know that there must be trade-offs for having a great surgeon at a thriving practice. Overall we would give Dr. Katsis and his staff an A.
I have attended Dr. Katsis' education class and I have had my initial conultation with him. At this point, I am very comfortable with my decision to go with Dr. Katsis. He seems genuinely caring and has great listening skills. I did not feel rushed or "like a number". In addition, his nurse, Tracy, has returned every phone call (and there have been several), and she has been polite and very prompt in contacting my ins. co. and sending my information.
this is the first time in my whole life that I felt comfortable discussing my weight without being made to feel it was my fault I was fat. All the staff are wonderful, they will help you anyway they can.
I am still waiting to have surgery but, during this denial process they have helped me tremendously.
