Dr. McKane is wonderful. I have met with him twice so far, and both times he has spent as much time as I needed answering all my questions. He has told me the good and the bad and dosn't sugercoat it. Peggy is his nurse and has been very nice and encourging. I would recommend him to anyone.

My first impression of Dr. McKane was very open, friendly and above all caring of MY needs. I would say this remains my impression and I feel I can discuss anything with him and ask any question I need to and expect a well thought out answer.
When my husband and I first met with Dr. McKane he sat with us in a close type setting and explained everything to us. He let us ask questions and I did not at any time feel I didnt have the adequate time to get answers I needed.
Dr. McKane's nurse manager Peggy is probably the most amazing woman I know. She has an incredible memory and knows her patients by name and by situations. I feel like they are behind me at every turn I have to take from now on.
I rate Dr McKane on top my list of Doctors. I have seen many in my yrs and he has been absolutely super. His surgical competence is above all and his bedside manner is super. He explained all the side effects and possible dangers in complete detail with me and my husband and I felt as if I was totally informed before going through this surgery.

I have change Dr.
I am now seeing Dr. Mecenas of Ithaca NY

He does open and Lap and has started a program with the local hospital.
He is young,
I have seen the diatician and psychologist and now am waiting for the next step. Four weeks after seeing them, still no reports sent to the Dr.

After getting a run around with the Dr. in Ithaca, who NOW says he will start surgery in May 2003.
I went back to Dr. Mackane and happy I did so.
I just want the surgery done after ten months of run around with the Dr.'s.

I think the Dr. in Ithaca is just afraid, and keeps putting the dates off.

12/20/02 This is the second time I've seen Dr. McKane. The first time was informal and at the seminar for bariatric surgery. Today I met the doctor in a consult situation. I thought he was great. He reviewed my case, asked me questions about what I had done about weight loss in the past. He explained the surgery and allowed my parents to interrupt and ask questions whenever they thought of one. I can't say a bad thing about him at this time. His office will submit my paperwork for approval to my insurance company, so now it's a waiting game.

I felt at ease with Dr. McKane as soon as I met him. Due to the seriousness of this surgery, I was looking for a surgeon with alot of experience, not a "green one." This surgery is booming in popularity, so I think people need to be careful about those that have just recently "jumped into" bariatric surgery.

The surgeon works in concert with another one from Corning NY, and due to the increase in surgeries recently being scheduled, these doctors are formalizing an actual "team" of support staff at the Arnot Ogden hospital in Elmira NY... By that I mean, when you are going to the hospital for pre-admission testing, etc., you will be assigned a specific nurse who is well versed in this surgery.

My only complaint at this point (7 days post-op) is that I am a "visual" learner, and would have appreciated some sort of handout/brochure/etc. to have to review some of the information we had discussed in person.

Dr. McKane had mentioned this website to me, and I wish I had logged on earlier, because I would have bought one of the two books sold through this organization.

Honestly....My first impression...HE WAS AN ASSHOLE...
This is a good man, funny, still a hard ass...but he is truley is a miracle worker...
They are great...and incredibly supportive...
He calls them "ol' granny tits"...I HATE THAT...
I'm his last patient that he is going to see from start to finish...He's retiring...
Strongly...but he also pushes me to do more and more...
I see him about every other month...and in the other months I see a nutritionist that goes over my daily food consumption sheets...
He told me I could die...he was very thorugh (i spelled that wrong i am pretty sure...) He was very detailed right from the initial consultation and continued to reiterate the dangers and risks...
He's a great man...
They are both great...He treated me with a sense of humor...which I like...But I get the impression that he would be different when needed...he's very forward...but i don't see it as a bad thing...if there is something you don't get he's great about putting it into terms you can understand...

Dr. Mckane is a very nice and compassionate man. He was very eager to listen to me as I explained my reasons why I felt I wanted the surgery. He told me honestly at the 1st visit that , that my obesity was killing me and that if I didn't have the surgery I'd be dead within 10 years. So with that info, it was easy to side with my gut(pardon the pun) instinct, and go ahead with my decision to have the surgery. His nurse Peggy is the greatest nurse I've encountered, she puts her all into your care and is very much in your corner. When I had my 2nd visit for my pre op testing, history and physical, Dr. Mckane took 2hrs out of his day and spent it only with me. He gave me a thorough physical exam, and spent 45 min just explaining the procedure to me. He was extremly thorough with his list of pros and cons of the surgery.. He was very honest and he didn't sugar coat anything. He listened and addressed my concerns and reassured me that he would take care of them. He gave me the list of risks of the surgery, as well as the illustration he made of what exactly he would do. He told me that I must keep this in a safe place so if any other surgery or medical problems arose, the Dr. would know exactly how my new anatomy looked. Over all I felt that he was a good choice for a surgeon, and I feel very safe in his hands.
