Albert T. Spaw, M.D. Bariatric Center

Dr. Spaw did my surgery November 2011. I had previuosly had gastric bypass in 2001 and I had gained some weight back, so I really wanted the lapband. This has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. I have lost 135 lbs. Dr. Spaw and his staff have been WONDERFUL!!! It is the best support team I have ever had with a physian and staff. They feel like part of my family and are my biggest fans. They help celebrate my accomplishments and are always there for any questions that I may have. When I go for an appointment I try to take a different family member or friend so they can meet and see just how wonderful Dr. Spaw and his team are. I remember the very first time I met Dr. Spaw and his team. I left that office with all the information that I needed to make a decison to where if this surgery were meant for me. I was so nervous and embarrassed because I had the gastric years ago and had gained weight back. Dr. Spaw and Kristy not only made me feel at ease but helped empower me as to helping my self esteem. The surgery process is not all about the surgery. It is your attitude toward the entire process. Dr. Spaw told me my attitude was a major part of this surgery being successful! You must have a mind set that you are going to work everyday at this surgery because it is not just a quick fix. It is a tool to help weight loss. When I go for my appointments I meet with a nutritionalist to make sure I am getting my nutrients and I get great ideas from her as well. My family, friends and Dr. Spaw and his staff are " MY VILLAGE". I need all of them to support me.....Dr. Spaw, Kristy and the rest of the team are not only my doctors, but are now part of what make up my life. I LOVE THEM:)

Dr. Spaw is an absolutely wonderful man and surgeon. My first impression of him was that he was a very calm, patient, and caring man. After my surgery, I had some trouble with unexplainable abdominal pain. At that time, Dr. Spaw became extremely concerned and took care of me in any way possible. He ordered several tests and x-rays to check for causes. He changed my pain medication to make sure I was comfortable and spent at least 20 minutes with me sometimes multiple times a day while I was in the hospital recovering. I cried one day in the hospital because there was no explanation for my pain (I was scared it was not going to go away)... Dr. Spaw closed the door to my room and told me to go ahead and cry, then hugged me tight and told me it would be ok. You just don't find surgeons or doctors like him every day! I always felt in very capable hands and after a couple of days the pain went away. I have recovered VERY well after my surgery. Dr. Spaw called me himself the day after I got home to check on me and see how I was doing. He also made sure I knew that there was always a doctor in the practice on call if I needed anything. When I had trouble with nausea that the phenergan was not helping, his assistant spoke with him and he quickly called in a new medication that was very helpful. He is very concerned with aftercare and follow up appointments to make sure you do well after surgery. I am so glad I chose Dr. Spaw and the folks at Baptist Metabolic Surgery Center. If you're trying to decide on a surgeon in the Nashville area, I would not hesitate to choose Dr. Spaw and his office! They are all wonderful, caring, and loving people.

Dr. Spaw came with great recommendations. I had chosen another surgeon in a local educational facility but after a disagreement with the office staff and doctor, I went to Dr. Spaw for a consultation. It was then my decision to elect Dr. Spaw as my surgeon was made. On Monday, August 8, 2011, Dr. Spaw performed a gastric sleeve on me. I have been very happy with my decision and the services of Dr. Spaw and Baptist Hospital.

I was released one day after surgery. Everything was as expected. My recovery time is based on my body. I've spoken with many and plan to take two weeks and then reviewing my situation for the need of additional time.

Dr. Spaw will be the one I'm recommending in the future.

I had my surgery, (the sleeve), everything went great, no problems, Dr Spaw was terrific, attentive, and good sense of humor, a really nice guy.. I woke up to find, they had cut out heart shaped gause bandages all over my belly, they were so cute, and kept me smiling and I felt loved and cared about.. My husband, and family, loved my little hearts.. I feel great, and I'm losing weight, it was a success.. Thank You Dr. Spaw

Dr. Spaw is the 3rd bariatric surgeon that I had consulted with. I must say, when I met him, I knew he was the right choice...without a doubt! He is very concerned, compentent, and detailed. His office staff told me from day 1 that they were there to help me and that's exactly what they did. I never felt like they were just "doing their job". They truly cared about what was going on...which is alot more than I can say for some other popular programs in our area. I would recomment Dr. Spaw to anyone. There has been nothing at all unpleasant about my experience with them!

Dr. Albert Spaw from Nashville TN is the surgeon I chose and I am so very glad I did. He is a very caring compassionate person. He answered all of my questions and was very kind.He has the BEST bedside manner better than any Doctor I have ever encountered.He truly cares about his patients.I woke up that evening I had some complications from a reaction to pain meds Dr. Spaw was sitting bedside asking how I was feeling.The clock didnt say quitting time with him.He called after surgery and said for me to call him anytime I needed him and I truly believe he would be.His office staff is the BEST also they are very kind and helpful.I cannot say enough good about Dr. Spaw If you are considering WLS I highly reccomend him!!

Dr. Spaw, and his office has been wonderful. Answer my questions right away. Dr. Spaw even called and checked on me after the surgery. He is very easy going and made sure I had no questions. His office staff stayed on top of things when it came to keeping me informed about the insurance and what was going on there. It was really nice to know what was going on.

He came and check on me after the surgery several times an made sure that I was okay before releasing me to go home.

Thank you Dr. Spaw and your office for being there during this wonderful time of my need. You were wonderful. Looking forward for you being there every step of the way.

Dr. Spaw and his staff have been wonderful. I am in a great program. Every question has been answered. Dr. Spaw was very infomative about the surgery, the program, the risks, recovery, and his background. He explained every part of the procedure with very graphic pictures. His office staff are pleasant and knowledgable. They helped me to navigate the insurance process, scheduling of all my appointments and requirements.

Very knowledgeable and experienced. At the seminar, he gave good info and didn't push one particular surgery. Low-key. Nice. I liked the staff during my first visit--friendly and encouraging. rnI am even more impressed with Dr. Spaw post-op than I was pre-op. I had some minor complications post-op, and he was very caring and concerned about it. We got to talking about why he got into bariatrics, and he said it was because he could really see the positive difference he made in patients' lives. Even though he's been at this a while, he still likes learning new things, as he has with me as one of his few Type 1 diabetic patients.
