Albany Medical Center Bariatrics and Nutrition Bariatric Center
I met with my surgeon and I got all the questions I had answered and was given some literature on the different surgeries. Dr. Singh was very patient and helpful. I was fully prepared for all his requirments, which are losing 10% of your body weight, seeing a nutritionist, and having a psych. eval. Most surgeons skip a lot of these steps, but they are for your benefit. This is a huge decision to make and it shouldn't be taken lightly. Singh was highly recommended to me by other people that had the surgery by him or were getting it.
I was referred to Dr. Paul Singh after I expressed interest in having my surgery done laproscopicly. I would recomend him to anyone. He was friendly, personable & had a genuine concern for his patients. He did a wonderful job with my surgery as far as my incisions {inside & outside}. In the hospital he visited my room & checks my cuts & was always very pleseant.
Dr. Singh is extremely nice and very non judgemental in his approach. He is very reserved and doesn't make you feel rushed. He answered my questions and his associate was also very nice and had a lot of information too.
I also called after the appointment because I came up with a boat load of new questions and we played phone tag for a couple of days and then we finally connected and he again was very unrushed and good about answereing my questions. So Far so Good. I will be getting a surgery date tomorrow. 6/19
Dr. Singh was very personable, and knowledgeable. He let me know that the surgery would be the best thing for me. But I have to lose 10% of my weight prior to surgery. I thought he was doing that to be difficult, but after reading about other people who had to lose 10%, I see the method behind his madness and totally respect that.
5/23/02 I met Dr. Singh's intern first, very capable and informative. Dr. Singh was warm and genuine, had all the time in the world to discuss the life time journey this surgury entails. He is very concerned with follow up care and a sturdy support network for when this gets hard, and there will be bad days. His office set up my appointment with the Dr. Nutritionist to start eating healthy and losing wieght. He also refered me to a local support group. When I have started changing my eating habits and have lost some weight in a healthy way he will schedule my surgery. He is really terrific.
First impression of Dr. Singh was good. He answered all my questions. If he is as thorough with everyone as he was with me I now understand why he was running so far behind. We discussed what is best for me, not what he wants me to do. Albany Med has a rule you need to lose 10% of your current weight. So, I am now in the process of doing that.
He was also wanted to know that I had proper professional support in place for after the procedure. (i.e., PCP, nutritionist, and counselor)
11/15/01 - I wanted to add something to this section about the 10% initial weightloss. The first time I was told this I could not understand why I would be asked to do it, obviously if I could lose the weight I would not be looking to have WLS. Well, having lost my 10% I cannot tell you how grateful I am that this is required. I feel really good. I am noticing that my back feels better when I am walking or standing for a long time, my energy is up and in general I feel better about myself. I know that this will all make a difference when it comes time for my surgery.
Dr. Singh has been wonderful! The surgery went very well, and he was there to see how I was doing daily while I was in the hospital. He answered all my questions both before and after surgery, and I never felt like any question was too stupid. He has a very relaxed manner, which makes it easy to feel comfortable with him. I think he's great!
Dr. Singh is one of the only Dr's I have met that comes into the exam room and sits down with his leg crossed and his arms up behind his head- he makes me totally comfortable when I see him. I have seen him twice now and both times he appeared genuine and cares about what he does. No question is too silly or meaningless to him, and he seems to be very up to date with his facts on the subject. As someone who has never had any type of surgery, I feel very comfortable knowing that he will be doing the operation. I have heard nothing but good things about this Dr. He tells the truth about the fact that this is a lifetime commitment to myself, and does expect me to follow-up with him and my Nutritionist. The aftercare seems to be primarily through the Nutritionist once on track. So far I would rate him high on the scale, lets see after the surgery-
Dr. Singh is great. He is quiet and caring. He and his team are young but have a lot of knowledge and exhibit a high degree of competence. When I called to ask a question after I had gone home, Dr. Singh personally called me back. He was very honest and straight forward about the risks of surgery and understood my husbands fears and took extra time answering his questions. I have my 2 week check up this Thursday with Dr. Singh. Overall, I find Dr. Singh extremely competent and caring and would highly recommend him.
I have an appointment set for December 19th. I haven't met him yet.
I went to the appointment on December 19th and met Dr. Singh and a medical resident that works with him.
Both of them were wonderful, kind, gentle and very nice men. They were very thorough in explaining all of the risks
and complications regarding the surgery. They gave me a big packet of information (a lot that I already had from this site), and
really went over all of the procedure and all of the before and after with me. He sat back in his chair, and told me to ask all the questions
that I had. He made me feel very comfortable and like he had all the time in the world for me. It was great.
I would definitely tell anyone to go see him.
I think his surgical competance and his bedside manner were both wonderful!!
I really, really mean it. I had nothing negative to say, he was very thorough, and wanted to
make sure that I really knew all about the surgery and what it entails and that it is not a "quick" out.
Of course, I was only disappointed that I did not get a surgery date that day!!!
But, he goes through a process, and makes sure you get all the testing and stuff done first.
I would definitely rate Dr. Singh as a 10. I had to go back to see him again because I was having gallbladder complications, and they decided to remove that too. He was even more wonderful then. (If that was possible). He was very considerate, and reassuring that my surgery would be fine and that I didn't need to worry. His easygoing attitude really relaxed me.
To go through this major change in my life was really a big deal, but to have Dr. Singh doing the surgery really reassured me. I wouldn't have chosen another doctor. He's the best.
