Advanced Laparoscopic Associates Bariatric Center
I just would like everyone to know how wonderful and professional Dr. Ewing is. He has made me feel more comfortable about this surgery than any other Dr. I have evr been to. He is kind, caring and very knowledgable. He answers any questions that I may have, no matter how ridiculous I think they are. His wonderful staff in Hackensack is also a blessing. Thank You Dr. Ewing for saving my life. I love to look in the mirror now.
My First impression of Dr. Ewing was that he knew what he was doing he sat back and explained the process and was very open to questions and concerns. My impression of him did not change he is quiet but assuring. His office staff is well managed and extremly helpful especially when it comes to dealing with insurance companies! There really is nothing that I disliked about him because if i did have a dislike I would have probab;y chose a different surgeon. Future patients should know that he is a great surgeon that really does sit down and explain to you what will happen, he explains the possible risks and complications with you face to face and doesn't pawn you off on some nurse who could really care less about what their telling you. All in all what I'm trying to say is that he comes across as genuinly caring about his patients. He very much stresses the importance of aftercare and does inform you that of you do not follow directions the risk of gaining the weight back is high. His office has a structured aftercare program where they explain to you waht you can and can not eat and what you can and can not do. It is extremly helpful especially right after surgery and you are more than welcomed to call with out feeling like a nucence. Overall I would rate him a 9...I don't think the best surgeon in the world is a 10 but he was great! And personally I think if he knows what he's doing when he's operating he doesn't need to have the greatest personality but don't get me wrong Dr. Ewing does have a good personality so no need to worry!
I fell in love with Dr. Trivedi at the informational seminar. I loved his voice, soft and assuring, but also confident. When I went for my consult he held my hand when he saw me getting emotional about something. That spoke volumes to me. He insisted I ask him more questions when we met. I didn't have many questions because I had been going to support group meetings for a few months at that time, and they had answered most of my questions. He said to me, \"You have to ask me at least 2 questions-you drove all the way up here from Toms River!\". He took his time with me.rnrn**UPDATE** POST SURGERYrnrnOk, well I liked Dr. Trivedi before the surgery, now I am in LOVE with him! What a gentle man. He assured me every step of the way that I was going to be ok. He held my hand when I needed it and always told the truth, he tells it like it is, but that made me feel safe to be in his care. I just knew with him watching over me I was going to be ok in the end. He came in to see my before surgery and talked with me, I had been crying to my husband when he came in, Dr. Trivedi simply said \"you can't stay like you are\"....that summed it all up in a nutshell for me. That was the bottom line, short and sweet, I needed to get on with the surgery and start a new life. In the recovery room he came to me and told me it was a \"textbook\" surgery and all of my organs looked great, he also removed scar tissue from 2 cesareans, a bonus! After surgery I was worried because I was running a low grade fever. Dr. Trivedi came in with a 4 man \"army\" (I guess interns) and he had them examining me looking for reasons I was warm. I felt like I was on an episode of Grays Anatomy, too funny!rnrnI can not say enough good about this man. He is amazing, and if you are looking for a surgeon, put him on the top of your list. He is the BEST!!rnrn(PS-he is very easy on the eyes too :)
I had lab banding done on 8/30/2006. Dr. Schmidt was very professional and gave me all the information I needed. I did a lot of research for the best doctor I can find because I was worried about the surgery and after care. Dr. Schmidt was widely recommended by a number of previous patients. My surgery went excellent. I was able to leave the hospital the same day and I didn't even need morphin for the pain. He and his staff provided me a lot of information and support for aftercare and so far I've been very happy. I would recommend this doctor anyday of the week!
I travelled over 300 miles because of the reputation of Dr. Schmidt and would travel 100 times that to do it again. Dr. Schmidt is a very professional, very capable man with an office staff that equals him. My first impression of Dr. Schmidt was that of someone who means business and is secure in what he does while at the same time quite capable of making you feel completely at ease and comfortable. His program is quite comprehensive both pre and post op and the hospital he is affiliated with is more like a spa than a hospital!! I felt very confident going into surgery and very free to ask questions of Dr. Schmidt and all his staff. A relative of mine who is also a doctor had RNY performed by Doctor Schmidt and he came highly recommended and rightfully so. I am one month out of surgery with no compications, no concerns and a weight loss of over 40 pounds. I am anticipating my second post-op meeting with Dr. Schmidt as well as with a nutritionist and feel very confident that every step I take with the Dr. and his staff will be a successful one. I can't recommend this surgeon or this hospital more.
What can I say? If you want the best, here is the best! I fought having any type of surgery for ten years because I was frightened and unsure. That was until I met Dr. Schmidt and his staff. I know about 40 or 50 people that have had bariatric surgeries over the years and got plenty of recommendation from them all. I wasn't satisfied until I researched and researched until my fingers hurt! Dr. Schmidt and his colleagues were recommended to me by several prominent people I work with. (I work in Politics). I attended the seminar at first and made the decision to make an appointment. I advise that you be completely honest with Dr. Schmidt about your history and lifestyle so that he may make a more accurate suggestion as to which surgery would benefit you most. I must say I was very very impressed by the fact that he took his time, answered all the tough questions with confidence and was willing to work with me and my hectic schedule. I left the first consultation feeling secure in his suggestion to do Gastric bypass surgery. (I orginally went to see if the Lap-Band would be beneficial for me in my fight with Diabetes). I took some time to think about all Dr. Schmidt told me and made the decision to go forward. I had my surgery on June 20, 2006. I have lost about 46lbs. By the time my surgery day arrived, I was no longer scared. I had total faith in the surgeon I chose. Dr. Schmidt is an innovator, highly skilled and compassionate surgeon. If you want someone who is pioneering new methods and techniques to better serve his patients, then look no further. I could have gone to any surgeon in this country and I chose Dr. Schmidt because statistics don't lie. He has done more of these surgeries than anyone on the east coast (according to my research) and his group has the lowest complication rates. In addition, the aftercare program is top-notch. Kathleen, the nurse practitioner and office director, is simply wonderful and chock full of useful information and tips! She is the lifeline for all post-op patients and is completely dedicated to her work. If anyone needs more detailed information on Dr. Schmidt or Advanced Laproscoptic Associates, please feel free to email me. Thanks Doctor Schmidt for suggesting the surgery and giving my the comfort in going through with it. My diabetes is gone, which was my goal to begin with!! It's also fun to start seeing the \"old me\" again!
I am a patient who had gained 70 pds from a Gastric Bypass done 1996. ( Surgeon had retired who did the Bypass). I was referred to Dr.Schmidt by a co-worker, who said HE MIGHT be able to help me, I had to attended the Seminar at Hackensack Hosp first before anything. I met with Dr. Schmidt at his office for a consult. He was very thorough on what had to get done first, since I already had a Gastric Bypass. After the POUCH study (Barium YULK !!) RECIEVED GOOD NEWS....I was told I can have Lap-Band surgery to get me back on track, and for health reasons of course. His office staff is great... (Alisha) she got me approved on the first try. Had Lap-Band surgery 7/28/06, Im down 14 pds and I feel GREAT. (Kathleen Nurse Pract.) what a wonderful person, she helped me tremendously since I had WLS previously. I rate Dr.Schmidt FIVE STARS he is a caring, sincere person, he takes his time listening to you before he speaks. I recommend him to who-ever is having first time WLS surgery or Second time around like me.
Let me explain how I met the man who changed my life... rnrnI heard about Dr. Schmidt through my brother-in-law who had the band done about a year and a half ago. When I went to the seminar at Hackensack Hospital and met Dr. Schmidt, I was uneasy and not sure if I can go through with this decision I had made. Then Dr. Schmidt began explaining what he did and I must say... I was quite impressed! He seemed very well informed and confident in his work. Basically, he knew his stuff! My doubts were instantly comforted about the surgery and I felt even more in that moment that I had made the right decision. He was clear and concise on explaining EVERY SINGLE DETAIL about each surgery and the pros/cons/side effects/ after effects/risks, etc. about each of them. And the best part about the seminar was hearing from post-op patients and SEEING the results!!! It was incredible!!! After some deliberation with myself, I decided to have the gastric bypass and I am now 3 weeks after surgery and I feel GREAT so far! I have had NO nausea! NO throwing up! NO \"dumping syndrome\"! I stopped taking the percocet after a week! I followed what Dr. Schmidt and his staff had told me to the letter and here I am so far 23 pounds lighter! His head nurse, Kathleen (who is an ex-patient of Dr. Schmidt), is also invaluable with her knowledge! And she knows because she's been there which is SO important when you're dealing with something like this. You want information from a person who has EXPERIENCED what you're going through! rnrnMy only small negative part, and I hate to do this, but there were a couple on the office staff, and I mean only a couple, who just couldn't get it together in terms of moving my case forward. Papers were asked for after I was told nothing else was needed, I was told I was approved when I wasn't and delays ensued. It was a headache and I nearly backed out of it out of frustration! But entered a savior, Mari, who saved the day at the end and truly came through! She took over my case and told me what I needed (for once and for all) for my insurance and then when all was said and done, she submitted it all and within days, I was approved!rnrnSo... in conclusion... rnDr. Schmidt= a God sent! The best of the best!rnKathleen, the nurse= one smart lady!rnOffice Staff+ Mari= A-OKrnOffice Staff - Mari= UH OH!rnOverall experience= Excellent! Would choose Dr. Schmidt again in a heartbeat!rnrnTO DR. SCHMIDT: Thank you for SAVING my life! God Bless!
