JANE, QUITTING SMOKING WILL BE THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO FOR YOURSELF TO PREPARE FOR SURGERY. I REALLY WANT TO HAVE THE SURGERY BUT MADE A COMMITTMENT TO MYSELF THAT I COULDN'T HAVE SURGERY UNLESS I WAS SUCCESSFUL IN QUITTING SMOKING. I HAVE TO DO THINGS MY WAY AND IN MY TIME-----WHICH I DID NEARLY 4 WEEKS AGO. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT I WAS ABLE TO QUIT BECAUSE I WANT SURGERY SOOOOOO MUCH BUT MOST OF ALL BECAUSE I ASK EVERYONE ON AMOS TO PRAY FOR ME, PEOPLE AT WORK PRAYED FOR ME AND FAMILY PRAYED FOR ME. I USED WELLBUTRIN AND THE NICOTINE SUCKERS AND I'VE DONE WELL. I WON'T SAY I HAVEN'T WANTED TO SMOKE BUT IT HASN'T BEEN TROUBLE TO TELL MYSELF NO. YOU CAN DO THIS, I WAS SO AFRAID OF NOT WAKING UP FROM SURGERY BECAUSE MY LUNGS WERE NOT PREPARED. I KNOW THAT IS SOMETHING YOU HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT AND THAT THOUGHT WILL ALSO HELP YOU QUIT. I SAY A PRAYER THAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH YOUR GOAL TO STOP SMOKING. I'M ALWAYS AVAILABLE IF YOU NEED SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN THERE TO TALK TO. HUGS LESA

Quitting smoking is the best possible thing you can do for yourself! (knowing NancyJo is the second)You have no idea how painful it is when you have a smokers cough after surgery! You will be afraid of breathing problems as you awaken from anesth. and you will be scared to death of busting a staple from coughing. I loved my cigarettes and stopped Jan. 30th for my March 11 surgery. I was very glad I did. You can always start back later if that is the case. I used the patches and there were NO cravings or side effects. After 2 weeks, I stopped using them all together. A surgeon dosen't want to operate on someone that dosen't care enough about themselves and their health to stop for just a matter of weeks. Please think about it and go to www.whyquit.com if you need to. Best of luck to you!

The days ahead of you are full of great possibilities--and life's great unknowns. But the good news is that God holds tomorrow in His hand, and in His unending faithfulness gives you not only strength for today, but bright hope for tomorrow. God bless you as you embark on this new path for health and happiness. Our prayers are with you for a successful surgery and a full recovery!

To dream anything that you want to dream, that is the beauty of the human mind. To do anything that you want to do, that is the strength of the human will. To trust yourself, to test your limits, that is the courage to succeed. Bernard Edmonds

Hello Jane, Congrats on getting your surgery date! I can't wait to get mine. I'm glad that you have a pcp who supports your decision and also a husband who is understanding. I will keep you in my prayers as your surgery day approaches, so that God may touch you and your surgeon and bring your through your rebirth safely and start you calmly on your path to your healthier life.
