4 days until surgery

Mar 09, 2008

It's surprising for me to believe that I only have 4 days. My daughter's friend's mother was inappropriate with her thoughts with my daughter. She asked my daughter why I was having surgery and my daughter told her (she's 11) ...she told my daughter that I was going to probably die, if I didn't I would have a whole bunch of excess skin hanging from my body, and went on and on and on and on and YES the lady is over weight...she asked her husband "Why wouldn't you allow me to get surgery" and her husband said "Because you die" ... well isn't that just the most bogus thing to say to a child? I told my daughter...whether or not I lose weight...the skins there...it's just packed with fat that could kill me and I want to become active. I really believe this friend's mom is doing this because she doesn't want to be accountable in life... if she can stay overweight... with health issues she can just not have to go out and do anything.

on a side note last night I started my grocery list.

Snowing here

Mar 08, 2008

The roads are unbelievable...I wish I had some snow shoes. I am having some friends over since I am having surgery Friday and I know I will not be able to entertain them after that. I made two different types of lasagna...one is a spinach alfredo lasagna the other is a meaty type lasagna...I am hoping if they don't like one they will like the other...and well...whatever is left I will freeze and give the family before surgery. I figure this will be my last time making this probably for years! Unless I eat a sliver once a year or so. I don't have lasagna that much...too expensive and not to sound pious...I don't like most people's version... especially if it's a frozen kind from the store OR one at a restaurant... just takes like tomato water. It's almost here and my friends/husband has brought most of my favorite foods for one last time. Prime rib, chicken, lasagna, olive garden, etc. Yet, somehow I have lost 3 pounds...go figure...I think it's because I am only eating 2 times a day..I need to learn to eat the 6 small meals...

My goal of the week is get my barix menu planned out and groceries so when I come home I'm not fainting from low blood sugar because I don't have food! UGH.

I bought 3 nightgowns in preparation too... if I get my room clean I will feel even more prepared.

Death Row?

Mar 06, 2008

My friend said we have to go out to eat as much as possible because we ma never have the chance again... my husband agrees...and some other friends have chimed in... is this what death row feels like... a sling of "last meals" The irony... I lost 3 lbs. WEIRD.

My daughter told me today...8 days mommy...she's 6... she's counting down LOL

Still geeked... and had the best steak gargonzola salad... because it's NOT death row...but, a re-birth of me .... only thinner.

A post on the OH forums...

I have a time WOOT!!!!

Mar 05, 2008

Well, the clinic called me today. I have to be at the clinic at 5:45am ... so, I am guessing...maybe I'll be the first person getting surgery??!! My husband said...what if they meant pm? LOL. I guess the day before the surgery... I have to take a laxative at 10am and then do liquids all day. I have heard people doing it weeks ahead so...I was unsure if I was right when I thought I had only one day...but, I did.

Can you believe it's this close? LOL...I can't!

Called the clinic today

Mar 04, 2008

I have been dying to know anything... including my appt time. They seemed concerned about my blood pressure and I do not like surprises so... I wanted to know. The lady said that they will call me Thursday or Friday the 6th or 7th to let me know my time of Surgery. (I'm having it March 14th)

Next agenda... I am usually the holiday  cook and well... a friend called to see what I was making. Easter is Sunday March 23rd and I don't know if I will feel like cooking...but, I committed to ham, mashed potatoes, corn, and maybe an ambrosia salad. I usually have a butt load of food. I am hoping someone steps forward as a friend and offers to cook because I do not want the food smell to be in my house...I'm afraid it will be hard on me...because I will be a liquid person.

Speaking of liquids... my Dr. doesn't require me to go on a liquid diet 2 weeks before...yet many people on here have to. I only have to do liquids the day before and take a laxative. I am wondering why the difference...as it stands I am the only one required not to do the liquids. I feel like almost calling to make sure.

About it for updates...gosh I can't wait.

11 days.

Mar 02, 2008

Today is my son's 13th birthday. We went shopping and bought some clothes and he picked out an MP3 player. So, I guess the mp3 shows he's still enjoys toys ha ha. I am sure he'll fill it up with music that haunts me. We plan on having a party with just some friends...because he wants a summer party later on. I can't wait. I think I want to take him to the water park...and by then I will be thin enough to really enjoy it and not feel so self conscience. We have something here in Michigan called "splash universe" ... if he changes his mind and has another game night...that's okay too. I had a really good time with him today... he's growing up... getting his layered look. I hope to take some pics... maybe I'll do my before pics tonight. I can't believe I only have a few more days until surgery!!! 11 days seems sooo unreal! This weekend I am having a lasagna dinner for all the friends because I know it will be a long time before I can host dinners that don't involve a smoothie. The weird part is... I am glad to have all this fat end.

I'm too excited about this process.

My back hurts sooo bad today. I can't wait to have this surgery and get the weight off. I really hope to train cross country with my son... and I want to hike... be active in nature...I just can't contain my impatience with the waiting game. I'm so grateful I am approved..and I am too excited for my new life to come.

Pre-Op today

Feb 27, 2008

I went to my PAT today. They took my blood pressure and it was very high so I am a little worried about if they will say anything. They took my blood, did an X-Ray, Ultrasound, I went to a nutritional class, saw the doctor, and a nurse talked to me. Oh, and  a urine test... after 3-4 hours...I was done and I was the first person done. My back was killing me because I am in pain due to my period and those big chairs...although huge... were not supportive of my back. The padding I think was worn out.

I am having a RealizeBand and the makers of the band give out a book that introduces the person with the band into a interactive website to track everything.

I also received a book that is about nutrition lifestyle habits etc that focuses to help me succeed. It has recipes, what I eat during what week...etc.

Well that was my day.

I journaled this and thought I'd share here too.

Feb 26, 2008

Something I worked on in counseling and then blogged to friends and now I thought I'd share it here too.

There is a lot of joy with food... we celebrate holidays, invite friends over, party, even in death...we are surrounded with food. I love food. I love different ethnicities of food. It's like traveling the world ...but, not really. So, I have been making changes... yes food is as food does and it will always be...but, there has to be a way to nurture, have fun, celebrate, laugh, experience... that is centered around something beyond food. So, my counselor handed me a paper... and I am going to pass these ideas around so... maybe just maybe... as a whole...we can experience life... where food is nurishment...but, not the center or all of our experiences.

So, here are the ideas...

1. Listen to music together... or listen to my favorite music alone.
2. Go for a walk
3. Hug
4. Relax outside (a nice bonfire comes to mind)
5. Exercise (Zumba anyone?)..
6. Attend a support group (or a book club)
7. Stretching yoga
8. Watch the sunrise/sunset/ dance under the moon
9. Laugh until we pee.
10. Have our tarot read
11. Create a collage representing us/our friendship
12. Reflect on what we appreciate
13. Attend a sporting event
14. Do something adventurous (No SARAH...I am NOT GOing skydiving)
15. Go Karoaking
16. Swing
17. Drum in a drumming circle (or let someone else play instruments)
18. Meditate
19. Garden/work with plants
20. Learn a new skill (like taking a glass sketching class)
21. Go to a play, musical, movie, concert
22. Weight lifting
23. Ride a bike, ride motorcycles
24. Draw/Paint
25. Swim, float, tube, wade, relax in a pool, on the beach
26. Take a dance class
27. Visit special places of meaning
28. Go somewhere that is filled with flowers and smell the roses
29. Create a goal list
30. Go horseback riding (wow...love to but, afraid... this will have to go in a todo list)
31. Share your most enjoyable memories
32. Visit a museum/art gallery (Oh my do I want to start doing this!)
33. Relax in a whirlpool/sauna
34. Make some lemonade and sit and drink together.
35. Go camping or hike in nature
36. Take our dogs to a dog park
37. Star gaze/Cloud watch
38. Window Shop... or heck... SHOP!!!!
39. Attend a workshop
40. Go sailing or paddle boating (wow what a blast)
41. Go canoing or white water rafting
42. Get each other a gift...homemade or bought
43. Go on vacation
44. Create with clay or pottery
45. Visit a zoo or interact with animals
46. Watch a tv series together
47. Share poetry
48. Make a bouquet
49. Visit woods, parks, forst
50. Call
51. Go on a picnic
52. Enjoy gourmet herbal tea/decaf coffee (ugh...I hope I eventually like this stuff)
53. Play a sport
54. Participate in a hobby/craft
55. Create a list of self nuturing activities that don't surround food.

I realize the above can be done alone...but, here are things that are specifically alone time things.

Now for some things to do by oneself.
Enjoy the art of taking a bubble bath
Practice Diaphramagmatic breathing (wow what a word)
Reflect on positive qualities.
Write an I appreciate list
Read
Dance to a tape of favorite music
Meditate
Write why "I love myself"
Take a nap
Write a "Why I am thankful"
Daydream
Tell oneself those loveing words wanting to hear
practice positive affirmations
Pet the animals
Reflect on successes
Read positive motivational literature
Reflect on "What I value most in life!"
Phone a friend
Listen to a relaxation tape
Practice forgiveness
Treat oneself to a nutritious meal.

Great ideas... I think I'll make myself a nice board of things I hope to accomplish/do this spring/summer.
