1 week post-op

Apr 03, 2008

Well, it has been 1 week today.  I feel like a whole new person.  I heard that so much on this site, but didn't quite believe it.  Well, believe me...it is true!

I used to sit down all day and be in pain whenever I got up.  I wanted to sleep all day and always felt tired. I had horrible headaches, major depression, high blood presure and I was pre-diabetic.  I was taking 11 pills each morning and some more at night.  I also had "as needed" medication that I had to take a few times a week.  My clothes were tight.  I was wearing a 26-68 and I had no self esteem.   I never wanted to leave my house and I was very much aware that I was always the biggest person in the room.  I struggled to just get my socks on daily.

I know it has only been a week, but I feel amazing.  I have been walking so much.  I cannot get enough. No joint pain, no headaches and I am taking half my meds now.  I have lost 24 lbs in the last 3 weeks.  I can put my socks on with ease (minus a little stomach pain from the surgery).  I don't feel like watching tv, it actually bores me and I have not napped since the day I came home from the hospital.

I love my sleeve!!!!!

I'm Home-Surgery Update

Mar 31, 2008

I admit I was nervous.  Couldn't sleep at all the night before. Had to get up at 5 to go the hospital.   My friend Esther had the surgery first so we rode together and I was two hrs early.  My surgery ended up being around 3:00 instead of 11:30.  Not sure why.  The worst part was waiting and wanting water SO BAD!!  I finally went in and Dr. Feng made me feel right at ease. My anesthesiologist was funny and helped me relax.

I woke up in a lot of pain.  Way more than I expected.  But they gave me drugs and ice cubes and lip balm and I felt much better. They brought me to my room and I got up to walk and pee.  Then I slept lots and pushed my medicine button.  I did not get to my room until around 6:30 PM. ( My Dr. said my stomach was really big and the surgery took longer than expected.) I got up 3 times to walk and pee before midnight.

I had no problems in the hospital until the next morning.  I drank too much ice and vomited.  Then they took me off the pain meds and gave me liquid vicodin.  Gross.  I ended up vomiting that too.

I had a rough couple of days, very sore and pukey.  I finally gave up on the pain meds and I felt so much better.  On Sunday I got  a pill stuck in my throat and that was awful.  I got very sick and hurt my large incision.

I am much better now.  VERY THIRSTY.  Focusing on water and protein drinks.  I am nowhere near where I should be, but better everyday!!

Surgery Tomorrow

Mar 26, 2008

Tomorrow is the big day!  I am excited, but starting to get anxious.  It is 10:30ish and I am so not sleepy.  Doubt I will sleep at all tonight.  Everything is packed and ready to go.  My house is clean and I am all set.  I have faith in God that everything will be fine. My cough is gone and I feel great.

2 Days before Surgery

Mar 25, 2008

Two days to go!  I cannot wait.  Last day of protein shakes and tomorrow is the clear liquids.  I am down 9 lbs and feeling great!  I still have a little cough from my ear infection.  I am hoping that it will not be a problem.  Other than that, I am beyond excited!!!  Thanks to everyone for all their help, information, prayers etc.  This site has been such a blessing!

Day 6 of Liquids

Mar 18, 2008

Day six and I am down 6lbs.  I feel great.  The first 4 days were hard, but now I am hardly ever hungry.  Drinking so much water it is crazy..9 days left.  I have a bad cold and I am praying that I get better soon.  I DO NOT want to have to reschedule my surgery.

Day 3 of liquids

Mar 15, 2008

Day 3 has arrived and I am surviving.  Been eating small amounts of protein when I absolutely "have to have it."  But I have been good and staying  under 900 carlories a day.  Last night I woke up at 2am and could not sleep for over two hours due to hunger.  I finally got up and had a small piece of meat and about an ounce of juice.  It did the trick and I was able to go back to sleep finally.  This morning I helped make a pancake breakfast (with eggs, bacon and sausage) for about 100 people and I did not even have one bite!  I was so proud of myself.  Having this cold has really helped!!

Started Liquid Diet today

Mar 13, 2008

Started the Optifast HP today.  Had the vanilla so far.  It is not too bad. Tasted like cake batter. A little sweet, but I just added more water.  It really did take away the hunger.  It is weird not to eat "real" food and I am very much aware of it.  I have to remind myself that I do not need to be in the kitchen and I have been fast forwarding any food commercials on TV.  Luckily, I have a cold and not much of an appetite.  Hope it lasts!
