Dan Your play-by-play was one of the most interesting/education and entertaining profiles I've read. Thank you for all the time and effort you've put into helping others learn more. I'm a pre (with no date in site)and I hope I can do as well as you as a post. Thanks again, Tam

Dan! Thanks for putting so much time & effort (& honesty) into your profile. Even veterans like me find them motivating. Keep up the good work-it does get better!

Dan, congratulations on making the leap to not drinking before, with or immediately after eating foods. I know you can do this! Just take it one meal at a time!!

Hi Dan, Haven't had a chance to read through your whole page yet, but just wanted to drop you a line and say I really like looking at your stuff there. I am scheduled for October 2. I like your commandments of wls. I am going to follow them! I never even thought/knew about water flushing the food out allowing you to eat more!! So thanks that helps. :) Looks like you're doing really well and I am going to enjoy reading your whole story.

Dan, don't worry too much about being able to eat more than others. Your pouch may be a little bigger. At 3 weeks I was able to eat 2-2.5 ounces and now at 4.5 months I can easily eat half a cup. You may want to try the cottage cheese test to see what size your pouch is. In any case, if your doctor isn't worried, you should be ok. Your obviously still losing!

Dan,
I hope you will not be offended, but I URGENTLY WARN you, back off on the foods!! At 2 weeks out from RNY surgery, you should still be on CLEAR LIQUIDS ONLY! And then, at no more than one oz per 10 minutes. Speaking as one who is 3 weeks out from surgery, and 10 days on IV nutrition to allow a tiny leak to heal, you are risking the health of your pouch and stoma. All I did was drink clear liquids at a rate of about 4-6 oz in a half-hour and I am now unable to take ANYTHING AT ALL by mouth (not even ice chips) and have a central line thru which they infuse IV nutrition and hydration for 12 hrs a day. Hopefully my leak will be healed by the end of the week and I can go BACK on clear liquids. I'm trying to spare you MAJOR grief. If they've already pulled your drains, a leak could involve a new surgery! Please remember that 1: your stomach is about the size of an egg -- put more than that in it at a time, and it'll risk a leak. 2: You have to treat your pouch like an infant's stomach. If you wouldn't feed something to a 2-week-old infant, don't put it in your pouch! After about 5-6 weeks you can start introducing very soft foods, but don't rush it - and FORGET about red meets for at least a few months, and then with LOTS of chewing.
Your surgeon should have given you clear guidelines for post op eating, but if he didn't PLEASE see a nutritionist with experience with WLS Post Ops.

DAN, I had my surgery on the 20th. I am still feeling a lot of discomfort, with bloating and gas are you! I am on a clear liquid diet for the first 2 weeks are you eating solids if so that is probably why you have a problem or maybe its the same as mine and we just have to walk the gas out of us.
