Started tracking...
Aug 18, 2007
After seeing my dietician Tuesday, and then having a bad food day I decided to get real with myself. I wrote down everything I ate that day. I have been writing everything down since. Whether I show my dietician or not has not been decided. At the very least I needed to write it down for me. I went grocery shopping today, got some really good foods. Now I just need to eat them!!
I really need a kick to get back into exercising. After my 15.5mile bike ride I haven't done anything. The stronger I am going into surgery the better recovery I will have.

I called and left a message with new patient appt scheduling at the sleep clinic and they called me back and are getting me in 2wks sooner on September 5th.
Doing better...
Aug 15, 2007
I had my 5th dietician appt. yesterday. I am still down 19lbs. That's good. I really need to get back on track.
I had a little WOW moment this morning. I was driving and my bra straps kept falling down. I thought it was odd and wondered why, they had fit so well in the past. I realized it was probably due to the 19lb loss so far. When I got home I adjusted the straps and the bra fits great again!
Also, while I was in for my dietician appt. I had them check to make sure I had everything on my to-do list done. The sleep clinic hadn't called me to make my consultation appt. I got one scheduled for Sept. 17th. I will be calling everyday to see if they have any cancellations for anything sooner.

Weighed today

It's the last day of my vacation. I thought I would weigh in and see the damage I have done. I am up 3lbs since I started my vacation. Gotta get back on track. It's only 3lbs. It's the beginning of going in the wrong direction though, I need to stop it now and go back the other way I was heading. To the new healthier me.
Being pretty bad...
Aug 06, 2007
It seems like shortly before I went on vacation I was doing that thing where you eat what you can from anywhere because you won't have it for awhile or when/if you do have it again it will be in much much smaller portions. I have been eating horribly and haven't been drinking my water for about a week and a half.
I even spent last Monday cleaning out the fridge, went shopping for the week, and cooked up some chicken breasts. Wanna know where they are now? They're all right were I left them in the fridge when I was done cooking them! I have been eating out and making awful choices. I have good choices in the fridge for me, but I'm craving all of the bad things I have been having instead of craving the good for me things I have.
I keep saying I would rather stumble now and be bad now than after surgery. I need to get on track!! I haven't worked out since that 15½ mile bike ride a week and a half ago. I am hoping that once I get back into a routine with work on Wednesday that that will help get me back on track. My bad behavior started out just being every once in awhile, here and there. Now I am almost back to where I started with the choices I am making with food!!!
I haven't even stepped on the scale in over a week. I usually weigh daily, when I go up a few pounds I reflect on what I have been eating and it helps keep me on track. Since I haven't weighed, I have no clue where I am at. I hope I haven't gained back too much! I have worked hard to lose the 19lbs I have lost so far.
I was also going to collect my samples while I was on vacation for my doctor. However, as soon as I went to start that I couldn't go!! I have been without red meat now for at least a week. I was supposed to be without red meat for 3 days prior to collecting samples, and during the sample collection time, along with some other guidelines. It's been frustrating, I got all stopped up right when I needed to collect 3 days in a row. I really should drink some metamucil. I am sure my stoppage has something to do with me not getting as much water as I need. I was doing sooooooo well with my water......and now not so much :(

Benefits...
Jul 31, 2007
I called my benefits department today to get all the details about going out on STD for surgery. For the first 2 weeks off I will not get paid anything unless I use my PTO. For subsequent weeks I will get paid at 50% my normal pay.
However, the bad news is, I do not qualify for FMLA, so my job will not be guaranteed unless I can work something out with my supervisor. They seem to love me there, and I work very well with a majority of the surgeons and have learned quickly and have great potential.
It's almost been a year since I started working there, I wouldn't be too broken up about it if I ended up losing my job over this. There are plenty of other jobs out there, and I could then have no excuse to go on a traveling assignment.
My boss might want me to come back light duty after a couple of weeks. That wouldn't be soooo terribly bad. It would be boring, but at least I would be getting paid. I will have to talk to her as soon as I get back to work. She has seemed to be very supportive so far when I talk to her about my surgery. I need to quit going home low need and need to put in extra hours and save up my PTO for those first 2 weeks off!

Girls Night Out!!
Jul 28, 2007
I was just telling the girls at coffee this morning how normally I turn down every invite when I am invited out, like to a bar etc. Well today I called a GF of mine that had Lap RNY in January to join me for the next coffee group since I had so much fun. She invited me out with her, a girl she works with and I used to work with and a friend of hers. I said YES!!!!!!
I won't lie. I had second thoughts, tried to come up with excuses to cancel but decided in the end that I really needed to do this. I of course was basically ignored by any guy except the really drunk obnoxious guy that was hitting on EVERY girl. And even then I wasn't hit on or danced alone with. It's ok he wasn't interested LOL.
Anyways, I had a blast and will definitely be joining them again sometime soon. I didn't even drink a drop besides diet coke and still got up and danced!!!
I very rarely drink as it is, so I have decided to just completely cut it out since I don't want to take the risk of transfer addiction post-op. I have a very addictive personality and I know this.

Whew, lesson learned!

After going to the Maple Grove Coffee this morning and meeting some wonderful ladies I decided to go for a bike ride.
Hmm....probably should have had a proper meal and plenty of water before I even left on my bike ride.
Last time I biked I went 10.5 miles and we made it to Winnetka Ave, the halfway point between the Coon Rapids Dam west and the Elm Creek Park Reserve. We started at the CRD east that day. Today I started at home instead and wanted to make it to Winnetka again. Well I made it. Just didn't feel well once I hit the 12mile mark and felt like I was going to . I stopped to rest, drink some water and refill my water bottle. When I got home I drank a CIB slowly and crawled into bed. Half an hour later the CIB came back up. Now I am feeling a little better. Just need to sip some water for awhile and eat some lunch.
DST 15.417 miles
MXS 18 mph
AVS 11.5 mph (it was pretty steady at 12mph the whole way until the last couple of miles I was going around 9 or 10 so it dropped my average)
TM 1 hour 20 minutes 38 seconds

PCOS??
Jul 27, 2007
I had my appointment with my PCP today to request a letter stating there are no contraindications to having surgery. She took a look at all of my labs and we chatted a bit. My Ferritin is at 9, the lab sheet says expected values are 10-130. Quite the range there! However, my hemoglobin is 13, so I am ok there.
She took a lot more blood today and is running a more thorough iron test. I told her I have been taking iron supplements 2x/day all week. She said if it comes back normal then I will have to stop taking the supplements and retest and if it comes back low than I have an absorption problem or some other problem. In the meantime I also have to collect other samples for her. Fun fun I tell ya!!
She also is testing me for PCOS. I thought I had looked at that at one point and didn't think I matched many of the symptoms at all and didn't think about it again. Now it's a possibility. Anyone around here have PCOS? Anyone have kids since being diagnosed? I was just reading about it and infertility is a possibility :( I REALLY want to have kids someday.
I follow up with my PCP August 27th and will hopefully be able to get my letter then!! I didn't think there was going to be anything in my way of getting this letter. I wasn't expecting this bump in the road. I called to tell my mom about it, and she said "good thing you're going thru all this and finding this stuff out." Had I never looked into WLS, who knows if any of these problems would have been realized.
On a side note, according to their scale I am down 16lbs since March 9th.

Feeling Icky...
Jul 23, 2007
I took my vitamins this morning. My new iron supplement, and my Vitamin D 50,000 IU that I am supposed to take each Monday. Ick. I feel so icky now. I think I will go lay down for a little bit. I wish I would have spaced the pills out a little bit instead of all around the same time. Good thing I am not working today. Hopefully I feel better after a little nap. I hope this iron will help give me a little extra energy. All weekend I stayed in bed until noon and even then I was tired and didn't want to do much. I have been pretty tired lately, hopefully that's my iron deficiency and that these will help.
I am looking forward to my dietician appt this friday so I can get an official weigh in so I know how much I am down. I think I am down about 20lbs. My scale at home is different than my doctor's office, it usually says I am a few pounds lighter than my dr's office scale does. Since I weighed and measured in mid-june I am down 7lbs.
I did not do as well with my water over the weekend. There will be bumps in the road, but I just have to get back on and keep going. Better to have a bump now than post-op.
