Question:
Strong Dark Urine, Why?
When I use the bathroom my urine smells like gasoline and I'm serious it is real strong! Post-Op 2/26/02 so far -97 Lbs Current Weight 248 start weight 345 Lbs. I'm wondering if this has something to do with the weight lost? — Latisha M. (posted on December 9, 2002)

I know that whenever I am not getting enough water in my urine becomes very
strong and dark as well. There is nothing helping my body flush out all
those toxins and other things. I am six months post op and down 93
pounds.
If nothing else, call your doctor and ask.. that's what they are there for.

Sounds like dehydration to me are you getting enough fluids? Good luck and

your vitamins as well as any antibiotics can also cause a strong odor in
your urine. Drink lots and lots of fluids!!

Hi! - It could be dehydration. I was dehydrated a couple of times the first
3 months after surgery and my urine was very dark. I ended up with gout
which was very painful even more than the surgery. Are you drinking
enough? If not drink - even if you are not thirsty. Tracy 1/10/02 - 105

Dark, smelly urine usually means you are not drinking enough water.
However, it can also indicate hepatitis or another metabolic imbalance.
Call your doctor.

Hey there, it sounds like you have a UTI. You need to go have a
urinalysis/culture & sensitivity done to find out for sure. If that's
what it is, you'll need an antibiotic.

Hugs! Definately get it checked out, as it could be one of the many things
people had posted. The one thing that struck me is the strange odor you
point out. I had this when I was having trouble with my gall bladder - I
recall it as a strange hydrocarbon/rubber smell (YUK!) Definately see the
doctor, becasue it could be one of many things!

original poster here: thank you all for your responce but that is not what
i asked to begin with for somereason when we submit questions they are
changed to say what someone else thinks that they should say!!!!!!!!!!! my
urine is NOT dark it Just has a strong odor!!!!!!! and also they has been
statements that i have posted and never seen them like for example i wanted
to know how people felt about coming to this site updating there profile
and chating and doing all those other things repling and supporting each
other and thenthere are those that just come when the need a question
answered of they fell like they ate one to many m&m's and have not
updated there profile in years!!! i dont like that i hate the fact that i
update all the time to share my trails and tribs and others dont!

It could be a UTI, It could be dehydration, it could be a number of things.
But it could also be the vitamins or medicines you are taking. I've found
that my vitamins make my urine very dark and smelly. Drink lots of water,
and see you doctor to rule out a medical reason.
