I have a date!

Nov 23, 2009

I started this journey a few years ago, doing my research and reading the OH forum. Yep, I'm a lurker : P

I was already checking out WLS and trying to get up the nerve to ask my Kaiser PCP for a referral. Lo and behold, at my annual physical  exam, my doctor approached me about considering WLS. She knew my history and how the various diets and programs would work for awhile, then wham! The weight comes back with a vengence and brings friends...now I'm MO and very uncomfortable in my skin. Why it took me 20 years to admit it, I'll never know.
So I'm accepted into Kaiser Fremont Bariatric program and get my assignment to lose my 10%.  As soon as I started researching RNY, I knew that would be a bad choice for me. I had already decided I wanted the best chance to make goal and stay there for the long term.
So I sought out the DS support group in San Jose and met Diana and Larra. I started hearing the stories of Kaiser patients who were able to appeal to the DMHC to get approval in Calif. I am now proud to say that with my initial grievance to Kaiser I was approved for surgery with Dr. John Rabkin! I'm sure that the help I received from Larra and Diana and all the other Kaiser patients before me who did the work and appealed their decisions (and Won!) made Kaiser more willing to just approve me without having to fight them with the DMHC. Woo hoo, I have a date: January 20, 2010!
