Going to the meeting on March 11th at Oncology center at Halifax. May be meeting my angel tomorrow.. yay!

dear kathy--thanks for the kind words--i did not know that halifax did this surgery--but i do know of dr.black--i went to him once to have a cyst removed--he also took care of a friend that had pancreatitis--he is very caring and knowlegable--i would trust him to do my surgery--if i only knew--i am all ready to go over to gainesville--my surgeon dr.hocking is similiar to dr.black--i trust him--take care and best wishes!

I saw the newspaper article in today's News Journal. That was the meeting I attended. I wish I could meet some of these ladies one on one without the meeting atmosphere. I also wonder about what my body will be like when I'm older and if this surgery will have an impact on my health in my later years. I worry about the dumbest things too... like if I end up in the hospital for something else and they don't know I had the surgery and they try to feed me with a tube and well... I guess I'm being paranoid, but I think I need to carry a card in my purse or something that says I'm a GBS patient...haha! But this is what is swimming through my mind. If anyone reads this, which I don't think anyone is... please let me know if you thought of any crazy stuff like that. K~

Been thinking more and more on this... I'm worried because the doctor has only done 5 of these operations... I'm worried because I don't know if I'll be able to change my lifestyle forever... I'm worried because I don't want my daughter to grow up without me... I'm worried about a hundred different things. I'm also worried that if I don't do it, there will be other things to worry about. So in order to prepare myself for surgery, I've decided to do a liquid/solid diet for a while. Liquid protein shake for breakfast, healthy lunch as my biggest meal, and a light dinner for the next few weeks. I also intend to get a lot more exercise in. The healthier I can be pre-op, the healthier I'll be post-op. Right now, the only reason I don't have a date set is I don't have the money I need up front, but I intend on having it by May. And who knows... by May I might just lose a little weight ;-)

We went to the info session last night, and what an eye opener! There is a big long process that I need to go through in order to even be approved for this surgery (which I've already completed most steps). I am concerned though, because my surgeon has only done 5 Gastric Bypass Surgeries. This is my biggest worry right now. I am also very nervous about what is expected of me in the two weeks before surgery. It will be quite tough, but I hope I don't falter. There were post-op "losers" there... I never thought being called a loser would sound so good.. haha! They told their stories and they were quite honest with their answers, which I really appreciated. I have a lot of thinking to do in the next couple of months. (I still have to come up with $750.00) My insurance pays, but I have a copay and I also have to pay for the "program". I'll keep on posting... whether anyone reads this or not, but it helps me out just to write it all down.

Thank you for the support. My husband and I will be going to an info meeting tomorrow night, Feb 19, 2004 to meet with Dr. Black from Halifax Medical Center. I can't wait to get the ball rolling and get a date set for surgery.
