It all began about 6 months after I was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2 at the age of 34. Huge slap in the face! I had taken for granted my good health for so long. I had periodic episodes in my life where I became totally focused on my weight, eating nothing and exercising like a feind. I would loose in excess of 80lbs only to quickly regain that weight in spades. That kind of restrictive living is exhausting. So, back to my original though, after I was diagnosed with diabetes I got very scared. I'm a nurse and know only too well consequences of diabetes. I work with heart patients as young as 30 with severe heart disease as a result of diabetes. I had an aunt that rececently had a gastric bypass with great success. I began attending the free seminars in the various hospitals in the Medical Center in Houston. After attending Dr. Yu's seminar I was on board. I like the doctors demeanor and the staff. Now after 4 months of weight management classes, dietician eval and psychology eval, documentation of my weight over 5 years and labs, and an EGD I was approved for the surgery by my insurance, Aetna POS.
