I have been overweight since childhood, from 10 pounds to 88 pounds overweight.  When I hit my late 50’s, health problems began to show up.  Being a nurse, developing obesity health problems due to my weight was not a surprise.  I tried Weight Watchers over and over, lost some weight each time through the years, but always regained that weight back and more. At age 58 I managed to lose 52 pounds on a combination of a low carb diet and Weight Watchers.  I was determined this would be it. I would make it to my WW goal of 130 pounds ( I am only 5 feet tall). I was exercising and eating right.I was able to stop by diabetes and hypertension medication. I was gonna make it!   But, alas, working in a very stressful job as a vice president in a large teaching hospital plus some family issues took it’s toll once again. I slowly began to put the pounds back on.

In 2018 I found myself tired and the owner of a long list of obesity related illnesses and a growing medication list. My BMI had gotten up to 40. My husband and I already had 3 beautiful grandchildren from his son and our oldest son was soon going to be a father to a little girl. Our youngest son would soon be finding out where he would spend the next 5 years as a surgical resident.  I had to get myself healthy so I could live a long and healthy life. I wanted to travel to see our children and grandchildren. Soon I would be retiring. Was I going to keep gaining weight and battle illness, or was I going to take action?  I saw so many people all around me struggling with obesity, getting larger as they aged and struggling to even walk.  I could not wait any longer.  I decided weight loss surgery was the only way.    That is how I arrived on January 15, 2019 to the OR door with Dr Chris Carlson, for RNY.  I have great hope and plans to succeed.
