Obstructed bowel after gallbladder surgery

Okay - a little nervous here.  My husband had his sleeve two years ago with absolutely no trouble and great results.  No stomach acid, etc.

Developed gallstones and had laproscopic gallbladder surgery last week.  Our bariatric surgeon retired and couldn't into quickly another bariatric surgeon so went with an older well-respected surgeon for the surgery.  Surgery went well - went home next day with no problems.

After usual constipation problem, got things working again with lots of laxatives.  Nausea started.  Went back to hospital yesterday.  Discovered later tonight it's a bowel obstruction.

Surgeon just inserted tube down the nose to suck out the bile.  Nurse was too nervous to insert the tube because of the sleeve.

My question - can the tube damage the sleeve or pyloric valve??  Will be in hospital a few days = hoping this works and doesn't need surgery on the small intestine.

Thanks to those of you who understand this stuff - I'm just nervous!!

Thank you!!

So sorry to hear you are having health problems.  I hope they resolve quickly and that you'll be back to normal soon.

the tube shouldn't damage the sleeve or  the pyloric valve as long as the surgeon is aware that there is a sleeve and not a full size stomach,as he apparently is.

Thank you so much for your replies.

Yes- the surgeon & gastro specialist are aware of the sleeve and were not concerned. It was my paranoia in effect & not finding any information online.

Good news is that the nausea is gone - no pain & hopefully on our way to healing and removing the obstruction.

As as all of you sleevers know - we usually have lots of rumbling & noises in our intestines. He's been quiet. As we went on a walk this morning - he passed a large amount of gas - a male nurse heard this monumental event & said "that's good man - let it all out!"  I was doubled over laughing! We are on a surgery floor & everyone is walking around.

For all intents and purposes you have a "regular" stomach it's just narrower so as long as they know that.  The pyloric valve is at the bottom of regular and VSG stomachs, if the tube is supposed to go past that then your vsg wouldn't matter.

GAS is GREAT especially post op for ALL surgeries.  Sounds like you guys are doing good!
