For the first few months I had the same problem. I do have to say that I have to have my shakes with ice and milk/almond milk blended in my Magic Bullet. Love them, they taste like a milk shake. My friend mixes her Nectar protein powders in her yogurt and just loves them. For some reason that is not my thing. Everything changes for us, taste buds etc. Eventually you will find what works for you and you will be off an running....
Good luck to you.

Topic: RE: RNY/Diabetes
I am a Type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump. My insuling went from 100 units a day to 25. As time passes, I have had to increase my insulin usuage. My A1C was in the 8's and dropped to 6, then I went back up to 7. I am getting my A1c tested tomm, will be curious of the outcome. I have noticed that as a Type 1 I am going back to not having the greatest control, but am doing so much better than prior to my weightloss. Am wondering if it has something to do with how my body is absorbing my food.
I will not complain as my RNY was the best thing I ever did.

Do not give up. It is so worth the fight. I had to fight for my surgery and I am so happy I did. Do whatever it takes, ask anyone and everyone for help.

Topic: RE: Almond Milk??
I use Almond milk on occasion and never had that problem. Love my magic bullet. I own 2, so that I can have one at home and work to make my protein shakes.
I agree that the protein is low which is a bummer, but I try to stay away from the soy products. I am so glad that I can use milk and not have any problems.
Keep trying new things and something will work out for you. It took me along time to find a protein drink I liked. After surgery our taste buds change but after time things you liked before do taste good again.
Good luck.

Kelly and Dave
I was taking 50k IU 3 times a week from Vitalady. I am taking vitalady 60 carbonyl. Should I double it? My b-12 was 1000 a day. Should I maybe take 3 times a week? I stopped the b-12 and vit d per a recommendation from another RNY patient. She said I was toxic. Oh and I am taking Biotin daily.
My zinc was 84 cooper 124 I have never been tested for the others.
In regards to my protein, i get 80-100 a day. I guess I am going to have to add another protein drink. Do you think using an enzyme daily would help my body process my proteins better?

Thanks for sharing. Good tip. I like to use coupons and like you said, so often they are not for the things we use everyday.

I was advised to stop taking my D3 and B12 for a few months.
My protein seems to be on the edge and I am getting 80-100 grams a day in.  I guess I may need to add a protein drink at bedtime or as my afternoon snack maybe to get those levels picked up.
The surgeon was having me retake my sodium test.  The funny thing is I like salt and put it on everything.  Kinda surprised it is low.

My calcium  I am taking 1200 a day, not including what is in my 2 muti's that I take everyday.  One in the morn and one at night.

Thanks again for any advice

Topic: RE: Greek yogurt and protein shakes
I have found my favorite protein shake is Gold Standard double rich chocolate. Kinda funny as I am not a chocolate fan. I make my shakes in my magic bullet with milk and ice, just like a milk shake. Yummy. protein is 24 grms, plus if you use milk you get extra protein.
You can find recipes at bariactricfoodie, or eggface.
I love the Fage yogurt the best. I sometimes use frozen fruit or no sugar added jam to plain yogurt, if you want more sweet taste add some artificial sweetner.
Hope this helps. Good luck and btw your tastes will change as time goes by.

Topic: RE: Calcium??
Caltrate is calcium carbonate.  We do not absorb that.  We are required to take Calcium Citrate.  You may want to research that or speak to your Dr.   Or read the post's by Kelly.  She is a vitamin advocate and really knows her stuff.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I agree with the others that you will need to do your research. One vitamin does not cover all you need. Kelly is awesome about the vitamin needs of weight loss patients. She has helped me out alot.
Good luck on your research.

Try BariatricChoice.com, they have free shipping on orders more than $49., plus they have some really tasty protein bars I buy.

I do not buy the Bariatric Advantage calcium, I buy the Citracal or generic version. CVS will have sales buy one get one or such. Much better value.
Hope this helps.

How awesome to hear from you and your great success. Glad to know that your pouch is working for you and you have found your happy weight. I know that we have been told we would have struggles but I think I am just coming to that realization. I am a slow learner I want to also have your success when I am four years out.

Topic: RE: Accepting ALL ADVICE!!!
One thing i would suggest is that when making protein drinks, blend them with ice. I have a magic bullet at home and work, because I love it. I feel when I drink my protein shake it is like a milk shake. Very often people and some prefer it this way, just put it over ice and shake. GAG!! Just an idea. At three mos, i also had a hard time eating, did an endo and no aswers. It just finally worked itself out. But I would suggest trying hard to get your protein in some way. My breakfast is always a protein drink. Have you tried the cottage cheese salad, with sf coolwhip and dry jello mixed in. You can add a few slivered almonds or some blueberries anything you like. Good source of protein. (it is the only way i will eat cottage cheese How about string cheese, canned chicken, tuna, eggs.
Good luck.

Topic: RE: Carbs
I myself struggle with the carbs. The carbs add up very quickly without eating processed foods. I use milk in my protein drink, i eat vegies, fruit and on occasion I will have a piece of bread that is whole grain, or a whole grain torilla that nets carbs at 8. The bread has only been 3 times since surgery. What I am trying to say is , I do not know how those that get 45 and under are doing it.
Wish you the best, I think you are doing great. Some of us are slow losers. Me I am a Type 1 diabetic on insulin and insulin makes you fat. So me, I struggle alot.

Give your tummy some time. I had a hard time with different meats until now. I can eat most protein. Still have trouble with ham, sometimes eggs are not my friend. It is still a day by day basis and how it is cooked.
I also do a protein drink. I like mine for breakfast, but otherwise want to eat real food to get in my protein.

Topic: RE: Caffeine/CLICK Protein
I am a coffee addict. I did go off before surgery and didnt start drinking any until July of this year. I asked my Dr at the last visit and he said he was ok with me having a couple of cups a day Whew. I was doing ok without, but stayed a week at my girlfriends and started back to drinking it. Dang it. Oh well Dr said try not to have much more because of the problems with ulcers. Soooo I am drinking my coffee every morning.

Good luck. I think like most things, it should be in moderation.

Yep. I have that dang hunger feeling as well. I do not dump either. Sheesh. A little frustrating. I also hate those who have to remind themselves to eat... Really? My body still likes to eat and am ready for every meal. Oh well, there are just some of us who will always have to work harder than others to succeed.
Best of luck to you my friend. We will conquer......

Topic: RE: This blood sugar fluctuation is getting on my nerves!
Sounds like diabetes to me. I have been Type 1 diabetic for 30 plus years and that is the way diabetes is. But ofcourse I am on an insulin pump and get better control.
I would suggest you get retested to be sure you can take care of yourself. I might also add that you may want to really watch your carbs, as they can make the blood sugar levels go crazy, up or down.
Good luck.
