im going to have to make a trip to Haiti this upcoming week/weekend for the funeral of my son's mother. Let me start by saying that the trip is non-negotiable for me. I will be going.

Im currently in the mushy stage but pre-meat for food. I'm thinking of packing premier protein shakes, retried beans, and kind of going with that for a couple of days. There isn't reliable refrigeration due to the orphanage where we will be staying--dairy is out. Anyone have another great idea for food for me? Is chewing protein bars to a "mush" a bad idea?

We will only be there for like 24 hours most likely so this won't be a huge deal, but thought I would see if anyone had additional ideas.

I had to go on a trip and I'm only 12 days out, I chewed up protein bar and it was fine. That and a premier shake and I got my 60 grams of protein

Forgot to mention, it was a premier protein bar and it had 28 carbs so undivided it up between 3 meals to try to prevent dumping

Definately protein shakes. Uggh what a PITA and so sorry for the loss. You could call the nutritionist for your program. Waiting to see reponses, but my tummy was super sensitive and I do not think that you should rely on a protein bar. You do not want to get sick that far away from home. Rerfried beans good idea!! Protein shakes..... maybe sugar free pudding cup w. protein powder mixed if... Only an idea if it is for one day...

You will be fine with the protein bars and shakes.  Refried beans are also fine.  Just make sure you try it at home first so that you know you can tolerate it.

My condolences on your loss.

How close will you. For the meat stage?  The tuna packets went down early on way better than a protein bar did. You could call your nut and ask.

I didn't really have a premeat stage. I also like syntrax nectar. You can mix it with jus****er. Its carb free and 100 calories.

Just remember if you go carry on you can bring ready to drink stuff. I traveled fine with my favorite shaker and proportioned dry shake. I am crazy for inspire protein.

I agree with the Tuna packets. Starkist puts out flavor ones. You may have to put some broth in it if its stil to flaky or dry. I am 3 months out and I still add a small tsp of mayo with it.  Have a safe trip and dont forgot above all hydrate. make sure you are getting your recommended water intake.

I would have enough prot shakes or prot powder with me for the entire trip.  I enjoy the prot shakes that you make in to puddings.  Vitamin Shop stores also have some pre-made protein puddings that will get you through.   Take enough with you that if you find nothing there, you will still be OK.  You're really not in a space to experiment much, yet.

Thanks everyone! I'm not supposed to move to tuna for two weeks yet so will probably stick to protein shakes, beans and pudding. Thanks for the ideas!

I was able to eat beef jerky early on.  I was struggling with energy and protein and the doctor said I could try it.  I took very little pieces and chewed it practically into a paste. I think it literally saved me during that time.  Maybe that will work for you.  Easy to transport and great source of protein.  I used Jack Links brand.  Seemed to have the best numbers that I could find.  Walmart also sells Jack Links Turkey jerky, which may be a bit softer and they are in packs of less than an ounce.  I just chewed a few pieces initially, never ate the whole pack at one sitting.  Good luck.
