XL and 1X? I mean one "X" is XL? No????? Haven't been that size in over 25 years and I think I might be getting there and I was just wondering.

Guess it really depends on how its made but I can wear the XL & 1X now. I assume they are the same just as you do. So far I've been able to wear them.

Sometimes a 1X is larger than an XL.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

with some companies, yes.  The 1X is cut for larger sizes, but the XL is more a normal size.

XL is misses size and 1XL is plus size.  1XL is slightly larger than an XL.
