I am about 2 months out and have discovered greek yogurt and just wondering which one is best for us nutritionally.  I have tried chobani and mix in splenda with a tablespoon of blueberries and eat about 4 ounces at a time.  I would just like to know your thoughts.  Thanks for responding.

As long as its Greek yogurt and not Greek-style yogurt protein won't vary much. If you're getting flavored, watch your sugars.

I am 4 months post op and I love the Chobani yogurts.  I eat the zero fat ones and eat the top of them with just a little bit of the fruit/sugar on the bottom.

What I do is eat the plain zero fat one and put about a tablespoon of blueberries in it along with some splenda.  I don't eat anymore than 4 tablespoons of it at a time so I'm careful about the sugar and so far so good.

Most brands are pretty similar.  You could compare labels to see which has more protein.  I usually buy Fage or Oikos, whichever is cheaper.  Recently I bought some of the Kroger brand and it was good too, and cheaper.

Be careful with the yogurts that say "greek style" because I have seen one brand, I don't remember what the brand it was but it was at Whole Foods, and I looked at the label and it had like 200 calories, lots of fat and hardly any protein.

Make sure you check the labels :)

I have found that the Kroger brand Vanilla Greek Yogurt only has 9 sugars compared to the other flavored yogurts which are way up there.  I can't do the plain even with splenda .. so the vanilla and some NSA cherry pie filling works out well for me.

The one that is probably best for us is whichever one has the highest protein for the lowest amount of calories.

I try and follow an overall eating rule of 10 calories to 1 gram of protein, so I won't eat any of the flavored greek yogurts that don't meet that ratio.  My favorite in the flavored is the Voskos brand.  Most of their blended fruit flavors meet my 10:1 ratio.

Doing the 0% fat plain will always be the best bet as long as you can tolerate the taste.  I find it is a good substitute for sour cream and I like to make savory dips out of it.  Hidden Valley Ranch powder mixes in well with it.

0% Plain Chobani and Fage are my favs.. add a little splenda or fresh fruit or NSA jam or some SF pudding with a little NF milk.. or mix with dry soup mix like onion or veggie sit overnight in the fridge.. and serve with veggie tray.

My friend mixes it with cocoa powder and splenda--chocolate.. I havent tried this.

Remember, the majority of sugar in Greek yogurts are from lactose (I asked my NUT). Chobani is a great source of protein. Plus, if  you goto their web site and send them an email, they'll send you some coupons.

I've tried every greek yogurt on the market, Chobani is the only I like.
