Got My Surgery Date.....but it's a long wait.......

So i went to meet with Dr Cyriac today but Dr Aarts showed up instead.  She strongly felt that because of my size (a heavy weight indeed), while i'm a good candidate for the surgery, she has suggested the surgery be done in 2 parts - Sleeve first and then after i have lost what i can, go back for the RNY.  Then she gave me a May 29th date and i was really taken back at how far away it was so she explained that it's a date that both her and Dr Cyriac are operating and so which ever one of them does the surgery, the other can help if there are problems.  She also said that if things are going good when they go in and they are comfortable in doing the RNY then they will but for now count on just the sleeve.  I'm trying not to be disappointed because i know in the health it's my health that matters and i don't want them doing something they aren't comfortable in.

Thanks for listening -

Debbie

Debbie,

I can see how that would be disheartening.... I really hope that you see the VSG for the gift it is though. Many would love to have a VSG... And we can do AMAZING things with a VSG.

Look at PinkJellyBean. She's lost over 200lbs in a year!

*big hugs*

How ever it turns out... You will rock your surgery.

Oh and added you to the list.

You CAN rock a VSG... 1 year out RNY is 60-80% of excess weight lost on average and 5 years is a maintained loss of 65% on average. VSG is 55% at 2 years out (lose somewhat slower for many) and at 5 years is a maintained loss of 55% on average. The stats are there to show this can be made to work well... *big hugs* shorter list of potential complications too...

Congrats on getting a surgery date.  However I am a bit confused.  Normally a VSG would be converted to a DS if you need malabsorption to go with a smaller stomach as opposed to changing from a VSG to an RNY.

Good luck!
