Finding a new doctor

I'm switching from my county's low income health program to Medi-Cal in January, but have to pick a new primary doctor now. I want to make sure that I get one who agrees with people having weight loss surgery and hopefully has at least heard of the DS. I plan to call a list of doctor's I am deciding between to be my primary, but am not sure what to ask in terms of finding one who is DS/WLS friendly. Do I just call and ask/state that I am interested in choosing such and such Dr as my new primary and that I am interested in having the DS surgery and want to know if Dr such and such would refer me? Is there anything else I should ask? Thanks in advance.

I would probably be very up front and just say that's what you want.
