why so much Vit C??

Some of you may have noticed, i have my labs back and im working on raising a few things and bringing a few thing down.

My question is, I plan to use Vitalady's regiment because i believe its been proven time and again that it is effective! But why so much Vit C? I know it helps with the absorption of Iron but the Iron pills she has already has 400mg in each of them, then 1000mg more in the morning with the Iron and 1000mg with your nighttime vitamins. I understand DSer malabsorb a LOT but C is water soluble...so, humm.

Im just curious, i know there is a good reason so i figured i would ask!

Thanks! jen

I have always taken 1,000mg with my iron (along with the C that is already in the iron, which I never really count honestly) ... but I have never thaken the vite C with my bedtime vites... Sometimes I wonder if  the second dose is REALLY necessary or not..

I personally don't think the 2nd vite C dose is mandatory

Thanks girl!!
I can't believe the weight I've lost, honestly! If I didn't hop on a scale to find out, I'd never believe it!!

199lbs was my goal before I had surgery. I always told myself that if I got to 199lbs, and didn't lose a pound more, I'd be happy.

Just recently, maybe a month ago.. I decided to make two additional goals... The last goal I know I probably won't be able to reach without plastics. They are as follows:

2nd goal

174lbs (BMI 25)

3rd goal

164 BMI 23.5) This goal was established to account for a 10lb bounceback

Let;s see where my body ends up

Im right with you on just wanting to SEE 199 on the scale...i havent been "100 anything" since i was 16 and dieting and exercising HEAVILY! I took 85% EWL of a BMI of 25 for me so my current "goal" is 185 and I would also like to weight less than my hubby!!! haha

I think you said in one of your post that you hit the gym a lot. If you have a sec could you pm me info about when you started going to the gym (after surgery, how many weeks out) and what you started doing and what you worked up to doing. I would appreciate knowing some of this as i used to loved going to the gym and i think once some of this weight comes off i will enjoy it again:)

Thanks Leslie...YOU ARE INCREDIBLE!!! jen

well,  it is not really that much, higher doses of C are good for you in general, even without the benefit of helping iron absorb. I was taking 2000mg of C b4 i even had surgery, so now i take 3000mg. You dont have to take it but it is not harming you in any way and higher C helps wiht immune response.

It's an absorbable antioxidant.

Skipping it won't give you scurvy or anything.

Thanks Kayla and SpQr. I do know Vit C is good for a TON of things but it was the only Vit on the list that made me scratch my head and think maybe i was missing something:)

I think i will do as leslie does and keep it with my iron but not in with the evening vits (after my DS, of course:)

THANKS!!!

When I added the iron with the C in it, I debated, but left it as it was. 2000 alone is a good antioxidant thing, and 4000 is the top end of safe, in a now aging study.

But beyond the iron-buddy, any more is just anti-oxidant, fluffing up your immune system. It's cheap, so I left it in there.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

Thanks Michelle! We are SOO fortunate to have you! I was just thinking the other day what we would do if you didnt decide to become the WLS guru!!! Of course there are others out there with tons of background and information but no one does it like you:)

Thanks again! jen
