Getting over Boredom etc...

For those of us with more to lose, we know it is going to take longer.

My original personal secret goal for myself was just to get to 250 pounds. Being over 300 pounds for like 20 years that seemed like an amazing milestone on its own. I hit 250 at around 8.5 months, so I obviously I decided to keep going. I had a goal of 180, my HS weight but I never really thought it was obtainable, at least not when I started.

I bounce around a lot in a weight range of 5 pounds right now, my body is really fighting against going lower but I know it will, it doesn't really have any choice with my diet and activity levels.

I set a goal earlier this year to get my body fat to 30% and whatever weight that was, I would be happy at that fat percentage. Now with the pending possible changes to insurance I have decided to lose to a normal BMI. I want to lose to a normal BMI, which would mean losing to around 150 (which I'm not even really sure is possible or suggested because I have about 122 lbs of lean mass).

I am not quite 2 years out from surgery. Lately I have been feeling bored with the whole process. I think realistically it would take me another 6 months to lose 27 pounds. I'm not sure I really have another 6 months in me.

I am actually happy at the weight I am now, I like my physical size but I know that I am not at a weight for optimal long term health, so I need to keep going.

Anyone else feel like this? Bored? I feel being bored is going to make less diligent in the long term.

Can you pinpoint what it is, exactly, that you're bored with?

That is the thing. I don't have anything particular that bothers me.

I like how I eat, I don't feel deprived. So I'm not bored with my food. I like tracking and weighing my food so that isn't the issue.

I guess I am just very goal oriented and at this point conquering new goals comes slowly. When you first start on this path and are dropping at a good clip, you get rewarded weekly or monthly with SV and NSV. Now it is just slow slow decline and I might go 3-6 weeks without any noticeable improvements/rewards.

I guess I just lack the enthusiasm I previously had, and that makes me nervous that I will eventually fall into old habits.

Have you thought about creating short term goals to achieve on the way to the long term one? For example, make getting under 180lbs. a goal, then every 5 pounds after that. Or set up some NSV for yourself. Just work within your strengths to keep boredom away.

I second the suggestion of making different goals. For me, those goals help to keep me motivated. Many of mine are exercise related, but a few are weight related too.

I kind of get how you feel. Once you hit the major milestones you set, everything else seems so 'secondary'. I'm constantly in a battle of 'yeah I could lose X, or I could just stay where I am'.

I think what keeps me from not being 'bored' is my exercise and pushing myself in that realm. It's also why I stay active on the forum.

I'll say though, it's not 'just' 6 months ahead of you-- it's a lifetime of work to maintain. We're never done, our purpose just takes on new form.

Well by done I mean I would like to get to a point I can start rebuilding my wardrobe again. A few pounds in this range means dropping a whole size.

I'm kind of wondering if that's why so many former SMO folks never make it to a normal BMI. For us, it takes a lot longer than a year to get there (maybe 18 months - 2 years), and a lot people start losing their motivation at about a year out. I know I did - those last 50 lbs or so (which I lost in year 2) were a bear to get off. Not only is it harder for pretty much everyone to lose those last few pounds, but when you've lost a lot of your motivation to boot, well...

I wrote the original post when I was PMSing, since my period is over I feel a lot better.

I have already hit every goal I have set for myself and physically besides plastic surgery, I don't have much more to do. I have hit all my fitness goals also and don't really have any new ones that interest me at the moment.

The last 10 to 20 pounds I kind of want to lose are coming off slooooow but I don't even want them to come off any faster.

I guess this is just the tedious boredom of semi maintenance. I know losing is easy and maintenance is hard so maybe it is just a creeping fear more than even boredom. Maintenance is the big unknown.

weight maintenance is a totally foreign concept to me. This is the first time in my life I've actively tried to maintain my weight. Bizarre.
