Sadly only the abstract is currently available, I've got a request in with my library for the full text. Based on the abstract, this seems like good news!

They use a lot of big words lol is this saying that when a weight loss intervention like WLS results in massive weight loss, the amount of lean muscle mass lost is minimal? Or would appear to be so?

Yes, that's what the abstract is saying. :) Basically the lean weight lost is from adipose (fat) tissue and NOT from muscle wasting. Which is pretty awesome!

Thanks for the clarification! Well yes, that would be absolutely amazing. It would really allow us to concentrate on weight loss alone as opposed to weight loss without muscle loss.

I think that this is true for most cases, specially when losing massive smamou of fat. Closer to goal, or with gaining then losing weight in maintenance. One think that I know it is changing for me is my bone density. My bones, specially the hips, legs where my more dense bones were. The age, the hormonal changes, and much less weight I carry around is causing losing mass from my bones. Weight lifting could change that, but IMO, not that much unless I do equivalent of 100 lbs extra weight with a lot of daily repetition. My bones density is still OK for now, specially in my pelvic area and legs.
