Menstruation symptoms stronger after surgery?

Since I first got my period on my 12th birthday, I have never experienced cramps, bloating, or any other stereotypical PMS or period symptoms. Since having surgery, I have experienced bloating and cramping lately. Has anyone had this happen where menstrual symptoms intensified after losing weight?

I also noticed that my periods were slightly worse after losing a lot of weight.

I have never missed a cycle since I began at 12 -- even after my son was born, I got my cycle 29 days later. Seriously. It it was always 5 days long, hardly any cramping and really a text book thing.

After surgery and losing significant weight, I did notice that cramping was more and it was slightly heavier -- still pretty minor compared to what some other women experience. I don't know if that is due to losing some estrogen dominance with fat loss, if I am ovulating more regularly, or if it's simply because I have gotten older and things change as we age?

But, to answer your question, yes, I have had a similar experience.

Hope this helps.

I have had the opposite effect. I used to have terrible cramps and breast soreness and both have gone away.

My periods are significantly worse since surgery...it was THE worst after month 1 and now it's still worse than it was preop but not worse than month one...The nurse at the hospital said it's common and related to hormone dumping...

Using a natural progesterone cream can balance out the effects of the estrogen dumping.

Endometrioses can also be a factor in cramps and painful menstruation.

It is worth mentioning to your doctor, especially if using birth control pills or implants.

Mine have gotten easier. I used to get terrible cramps and lots of clots, but since losing weight my cramping is minimal and Tylenol takes care of it. Clots are almost non existent and they don't last as long. I'm getting am IUD placed soon, so I hope that it will stop completely.

I have a Mirena (hormonal iud) and before surgery, I would get some spotting every few months. Before the Mirena I would get 7-8 day periods that were terrible. I hated leaving the house and had to sleep with a towel under me.

Since surgery my 7 day periods are back but they are light so I'm glad for that.
