For mine:

Carbs - 30 grams or less

Protein - minimum 60-70 grams daily

Water - 64 oz

As far as calories and fat, you are supposed to keep an eye on both those things (don't go crazy), but there's technically not a max number.

Mine was exactly the same.  I ate a ton of chicken sausage :)

Those docs who do pre-op diets are usually looking for some form of low carb diet, so in absence of any specifics from your doc, you won't be far off by going with the classic Atkins 40 g limit.

150 net carbs, but with a catch...

15 net carbs per snack

30 net carbs per meal

You have to avoid eating too many carbs in one sitting or it will flood your system with insulin, trigger cravings and hunger, and get you embroiled in a nasty cycle of eating carbs, spike the insulin, overeat, spike the insulin some more...

Although I technically on not on a pre-op diet yet, I have chosen to start early because I have to lose a few more lbs to qualify for surgery.

I need to stay under 40.  Closer to 30 would be even better.  As long as I am losing weight, I will stay around 35-40.  Then when I start my 2 week  pre-op , which is on Aug 28, I will keep closer to 30.

Starting W: 320  Surgery W (9/12/13): 279.8.
