Stress, emotional eating, & travel

We can make it through stressful times and traveling - just need to plan the best we can!  It is possible!!

I am so thankful for this surgery!  I've been dealing with a stressful situation that started Mother's Day - found my 91 year old mother on the floor of her independent living apartment.  She had broken her hip & wrist - she lived 12 hours away.  For the last six weeks I've been on the road - in hotels - she's been in and out of hospitals, rehab & then finally in a nursing home.  She passed away Friday - we are very thankful for a full 91 years and she is no longer in pain & suffering.

My point in posting this is that I'm an emotional eater and I made it through this time period and lost 13 lbs since Mother's Day!  I really tried to watch what I ate - I went to the grocery store when I was out-of-town and loaded up on greek yogurt, went to GNC & got protein shakes & Quest Bars, etc.  The mini-fridge in the hotel was a godsend.  I did eat out-a-lot and just ordered protein & salads - was hard leaving so much food as there was no point in taking it home.  I also tried to always have some food & crystal light packets with me at all times (quest bars) so I was prepared.

My exciting moment was shopping for a dress for the funeral - nothing in my closet would work.  I BOUGHT MY FIRST DRESS IN A NORMAL SIZE - NOT A WOMAN'S SIZE!!!  I also didn't mind taking pictures with my family members - didn't hide in the back as I used too!  My mother was proud of my progress!

Now to get back to working out, logging my food in My Fitness Pal, and getting all my water and protein in.  I know the emotional eating will still be a problem as I go through the grieving process - got to keep working on myself but feel like this "tool" is wonderful!!

I'm so sorry that you've lost your mom and that you had such a stressful time of dealing with her illness and the travel involved.  You did such a good job of taking care of yourself during that time.

It's wonderful that your mom was so happy about your progress.  That made me smile for you.  :)

Thank you all for the kind comments!  I'm thrilled that this surgery has opened new doors for me to able to stay on a healthy path - I really feel like I can lose the weight I need too!  It's exciting - gives you hope even when going through hard times...

Yes, my mom was happy for me and my husband who had his surgery three weeks after mine - BUT  I did not tell her until we were both done with the surgery.
