How soon after surgery can you drive?

 

That's a question for your surgeon.  Mine approved me at my first postop visit, which happened to be just shy of two weeks.  A lot depends on how one's postop recovery is going, what med(s) one might be taking postop, and other factors.

Well every surgeon has their own guidelines, but mine said as long as i was off the pain medicine i could drive. Check with your own surgeon for his instructions :)

This was mine's also.  I was off after altogether after 5 days.  The last three was just at night.

Like others said, you should check with your doctor. Mine told me as long as I wasn't on pain meds, and could stop without hesitation (no pain) it would be fine. If you're in pain at all, or will be hindered to make a quick stop because of pain I wouldn't try it, it wouldn't be safe for you, or others.

At least 3 days, and without prescription pain meds.

Mine advised until my post-op visit but I didn't wait that long. I didn't take any pain meds, except the day of surgery, but I didn't feel ready to drive until about 5 days after surgery. I needed to be able to get in enough calories to feel normal, and I needed not to be tired. Once I felt truly clear headed I was willing to get behind the wheel. I don't think I rushed it, but I'm not sure my surgeon would agree.

I was told 1 week and at least 24 hours off prescription pain meds
