How soon can I return to work??
I want to thank all of you in advance for any help! My surgery is scheduled Feb. 2, 2013. I'm so scared but excited at the same time! My question is, if I have surgery on Sat. morning and get discharged Monday afternoon. How soon do you recommend returning to work? I just got a new promotion and hate to miss to much work. It is a desk job and not physically demanding at all.
THANKS!!!
I felt absolutely fine physically, but would definitely say I was dead tired for the first 3-4 weeks and often going to bed at about 7pm. But by 6 weeks, I was feeling completely back to normal.
I'm having my surgery done in Mexico. They will discharge me Monday and I can fly home then or stay an additional 2 days. I want to come home after discharge but just wondering how soon others returned to work after the sleeve. Dr says when I feel up to it. Just wondering what others experiences were post-op.
THANKS
I planned on 2 weeks but was out 3 weeks, just allowing my body to start getting use to the new me. Plus "food" is a pain sometimes in the 2nd week. I went back to work the 4th week but worked 6 of 8 hours I was very tired for many reasons, it's major surgery, your not eating and your body is in shock. The 5th week I could work all 8 hours but still find at 8 weeks I'm ready for rest after my work day is done. Your body will tell you how it's coping and I'd just prepare work for the worst and best case situation.
It is different for everyone, it will depend on how you feel. My surgeon normally recommends 2 weeks for a desk job (which is what I do). When I went for my 2 week post op appointment, I was feeling great (besides tired from nothing and everything). When she found out how demanding my desk job was (stress wise) she was concerned that I wouldn't be able to get in my fluids/proteins while at work. I am also out on a short term disability claim (not sure if you will be filing one) and the standard recovery time for an abdominal surgery is 4-6 weeks (max 6 weeks, I also work for my disability insurance carrier). She ended up putting me out for 2 more weeks so that I could get better at the demands of the fluids/protein goals before returning to work.
Good luck!

For planning purposes, I recommend you plan on being out a week, but if you feel great and can get in your water and protein, you could plan to resume working from home or part time.
i felt really wiped out the first three weeks, and was glad I could work from home and relearn eating and drinking there.
