Sharon Sharenow Psychologist PhD
I only saw Ellen twice, but both times she was not only very encouraging, but also very supportive. She also let me know that if at any time I needed someone to talk to, all I had to do was give her a call and we would set up an appointment. She also let me know that she would be there for me even after my surgeryif I felt I needed someone to talk to.
Though I'm unable to compare my experience with any other psycological visits because I've had none-I didn't like the way she made me feel like a case study rather than a human being with feelings and needs-I know everyone wants the surgery process rushed especially once they've decided they really do need it-I feel that they (the hospital as a whole) should provide a more definitive schedule for this surgery. Not being able to plan ahead is the most frustrating part.
I sing in a band and now 3 other people (band members) have to wait with me to schedule any band jobs-I started looking into this surgery last July (6 months) I didn't book any gigs between December and February (that being my rough estimate) and now I don't know if I am going to have to cancel the March and April jobs I have already lined up. She insists I take extra courses "before" I can schedule surgery and of course they were all booked up for December so I have to attend this month long course in January-though I'm sure the classes will be very informative this seems a bit unfair and I wished she had told me at my first visit a month prior as I'm sure she already knew this would be a pre-requisite. The worse part of my visit with her was that I had the feeling she enjoyed having this much power over my life. Another one of those internal gut feelings I'm having I guess.
