Michael Cometa Psychologist Ph.D
Dr. Cometa wasn't familiar with doing these evals for gastric bypass and my insurance really didn't give us anything to go on. He delved into why I thought I was overweight and how was I going to cope with not being able to use food anymore after having the surgery. He gave me homework to list the things that I was going to do to cope with life/stress and to list what things would/wouldn't change after the surgery. My insurance only pays for 1 visit, so I'm waiting for him to call them to explain why he wants 2 visits. He did tell me that he would write a positive eval and that he thought it was commendable for me to be doing what I could to get healthier now at age 37. He was in his 50's. After two weeks, I called his office and got the evaluation a couple days later. Dr. Cometa came off as nice and supportive to my face, but the evaluation came off as highly critical. He stated stuff that I didn't say, didn't state positive stuff that I did say, and made the whole eval very negative, but at the bottom, said that he was giving his approval based on my committment to seek help after the surgery through counseling. I was flabbergasted. Overall, it must not have hurt my case with the insurance, but it made me aware that not all counselors are face value for what they say. I felt like he was two-faced. I wouldn't go back there if I had too.
