Kimberly Sloane Psychologist PhD
Dr. de la Torres office referred me to Ms. Sloane. She kept me waiting for over 35 minutes then spent exactly 6 minutes with me. She did not ask me anything except for why did I take Xanax for which I told her for flying after Sept 11 and I only took occasionally and Ambien which I explained was because I traveled 2 to 3 weeks a month and found it hard to sleep in strange hotel rooms on different time zones and my PCP did not feel there were any long term impacts to be concerned with. She asked if I had sleep aphnea and I said no. She looked at me and said she felt I was borderline clinically depressed. I proclaimed she must be very brilliant to have made that observation in less than 3 minutes with just a couple of medical questions. I left without anything else discussed and very upset that we didn't talk about my surgery, my family history, my emotional preperation, that I understood the risks, was I committed to the program yada yada. She received the MMPI-2 test which showed I was within normal yet she sent a letter recommending that the surgeon not due the surgery. I went to another phychologist who was absolutely wonderful, spent 1 full hour with me, asked me all the questions I would expect to determine if I was suited, graded a new MMPI-2 and highly recommended me for surgery. Unfortunately the surgeon won't take the new Psychologist results, he says I have to make Ms. Sloane change her mind and since we don't seem to have a good relationship I don't see how this would help. She does not understand obesity, is rude and abuses her professional title. I don't recommend anyone needing to really see if they are mentally qualified for this surgery see this woman. I don't think Dr. de la Torre realizes the impact this DR has on his practice.
