I was a little disturbed that 3 full sessions were required for approval. Since my insurance did not cover psych counseling, all my expenses (around $600) are out-of-pocket.

Dr. Ernst was nice and appreciated that I had put some thought into the "homework" that he gave me. I figured, if I had to spend the money, I might as well try to learn something about myself... and WHY I am overweight.

Still, I felt like the whole process was totally unnecessary. I think any one who is looking at this surgery, has already settled the issue in their mind. I don't really need someone else's approval of me to know what is right for me.

Dr. Ernst also took a LONG time to get my final report to my surgeon. Two weeks after my consult with him, I had to call and REMIND him to send in my paperwork. I thought that was rather unprofessional.

All in all, Dr. Ernst is a nice guy... but personally, I think the whole "psych" thing is just another racket set up to profit from the patient.

Also... for extremely obese patients... Dr. Ernst's office was on the 2nd floor. Not sure if there was an elevator, but I was told to "go up the steps..."
