Denise Beckett-Adkins Psychologist Ph.D.
I thought that Dr. Beckett was very nice, however I was not pleased with the fact that I was not apprised up front that I would need to come to her office 3 times before she would send my clearance to my surgeon. I work in the healthcare field and think that this was just her way of getting more money from the insurance carrier. I went for my initial visit and then she requested to see me back for a second visit at which she said that she would not need to see me back again. She clearly stated that she would type the report and fax it to my surgeon by monday february the 1st, well my surgeons office called me on 2/7/05 and said that they had not rec'vd my eval yet. I called Dr. Beckett's office and her secretary told me that she neede to put some finishing touches on the paperwork and then they would need me to come in for about 15 minutes to proof read the letter before she sent it to my surgeon. First of all if she is the Dr, then why should I have to proof read her work, second of all I asked the secretary would this be considered a visit and she said yes i'd have to pay a copay. I also asked her what code would they be charging me for and she said a 90806. I called my insurance company and informed them that i thought that this was fraudulent billing because she said that i would only need to be there for 15 minutes to read the paper and the insurance company said that a 90806 is for a 45-50 minute visit. I even asked the secretatry to fax it to me and she said that i need to understand that it takes the dr. a lot of time to type of these reports and there is no code for her to bill for a bariatric report preparation, so i need to come into the office or they would not fax the report over. meanwhile, my surgery is in 4 days. I even had the surgeon's office call the psych office and Dr. averbach's secretary got the same rude response that I got. If the purpose of the visit was just for me to proof read the report then why couldn't it haved been faxed to me as requested. The copay that they need me to pay wasn't the issue it was just an inconvenience especially after the dr. specifically stated that she would not need to see me back. I believe that it is fraudulent and i will definetly be following up with my mental helath provider. If anyone does decide to use this provide ask them upfront how many times will you be required to come into the office. Just be on the safe side so that you aren't in for any surprises like I was. Good Luck
DR.BECKETT-ADKINS WAS VERY FRANK AND DIDN'T SUGARCOAT ANYTHING(JOKE). SHE WAS VERY HELPFUL TO ME. AT FIRST I WASN'T TO SURE IF SHE EVEN APPROVED OF BARIATRIC SURGERY. BUT AFTER COMING BACK AND GOING OVER THE EVALUATION I FELT MORE COMFORTABLE WITH HER. SHE WAS VERY OPEN TO HEAR WHAT I HAD TO SAY. SHES DOWN TO EARTH AND FUN TO TALK TO. I WAS VERY RELAXED WITH HER.
