David Harmon Psychologist
I went to this appt to get a referral/release for gastric bypass. He did talk alot about his practice and what it had to offer, but I saw that as informational and not pushy. He seems to be concerned about the problems we face as MO and what types of challenges we have both pre and post-op. He offers a support group on Thursday night every week for $5.00 and states that he is working on a "manual" for success pre and post-op. I will attend some of his support groups and see for myself what they have to offer. He is very interested in expanding this portion of his practice. That is wonderful to hear when there are sooo many people who don't understand MO and truly don't care to. So far he says that he has performed about 200 WLS consults and another man in his office, Al Perkins, has done over 100. The chairs in the waiting room were kind of small but once I was taken back to meet with him the first thing he did was to make sure that I had a comfortable seat. He was easy to talk to and I accomplished my goal of referral/release. I think that he wants you to show him that you are willing to work this tool and are not looking for a magic pill. I would recommend Dave Harmon any day. By the way this post says July 3, 2002 but I actually had my appt on January 23, 2004. Something is wrong with the post date and I could not change it.

Mr. Harmon & Al Perkins have together have completed over 200 Bariatric Pysch. evaluations. They are reasonably priced and can usually get your appointment within 1 week. In most cases, insurance can be utilized for your individual appointment. They also offer a weekly support group on Thursdays at 5:30 pm in their offices. Call them for any additional information. : )
He was very interseted in explaining how great his practise is, how superb the service is that he provides and how wonderful it will be when he writes the manual he is completeing on WLS. He didn't demonstrate to me any ability to listen--but maybe my expectations were too high. I will try to keep an open mind and attend his support group meetings. Maybe my opinion will change.
Major Problem: The system of--You must call your Insurance company and get authorization Numbers, expiration date, and other info. When I couldn't find it, the dark haired office girl led me to a room and gave me a phone. I spent thirty minutes trying to get through the Insurance company's system. In the end, a beaughtiful Blonde assisted me with getting things taken care of. Honestly, isn't that what we pay them to do, deal with getting the check? I thought that was really unprofessional.
