    Dr Vaidya received her training in London England before coming to the USA in 1993. She completed her training in the US at Georgetown University hospital in Washington DC. She is Board Certified in Psychiatry. Dr Vaidya joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins University in 1996 and was the director of the Consult Psychiatry Service from 1997-2006. She was a consultant to the Center for Addiction & Pregnancy from 1996-2006. Her area of expertise is treating psychiatric illness in the obese / medically ill patient. Dr. Vaidya founded and runs the obesity psychiatry program at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. She is also the director of “Total Wellness” a comprehensive psychological nutritional and exercise program for obese patients. This includes Pre bariatric surgery evaluations and treatment of psychiatric illness in the obese patient. She directs the cognitive behavior therapy group, which specifically addresses binge eating, emotional eating, and weight regain after bariatric surgery in this population. In addition to several journal articles on bariatric psychiatry, Varsha published a book titled, "Health and Treatment Strategies in Obesity." She is an internationally-recognized expert on obesity and bariatric psychiatry, and has been an invited speaker at numerous conferences and hospitals. Varsha Vaidya is an Assistant Professor in Psychiatry and General Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins University and School of Medicine.
