I was in treatment with Dr. Winkelman for one and a half years. I found this practitioner to be incompetent, negligent and dishonest. Please, read about my experience with Dr. Winkelman and a subsequent medical board investigation of his therapy, for which he received a disciplinary warning, in a web site "Doctor Nightmare" at

While he is a psychiatrist, Dr. Winkelman specializes in restless leg syndrome and periodic limb movement disorders in addition to his work as a psychiatrist. I was referred to Dr. Winkelman by my primary care physician for a sleep study to check for sleep apnea. This was 30 pounds and three years ago, and it turned out that while I didn't have sleep apnea, I did have restless leg syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder, the latter, quite severe. Dr. Winkelman worked with me to find the right med for me (Mirapex) and since I started taking it, I sleep so much better. I will need a new sleep study as part of my pre-op testing, but I don't know where the testing will take place. I'll update when I know.
