About MeDominic F. Heffel, M.D. is a recent addition to this practice. He is a native of Washington State, but has traveled across the United States during his education. He attended the prestigious John Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire during his middle school years. Dr. Heffel then attended college at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. While at Stanford he performed basic science research at The Stanford University School of Medicine and he has continued to perform scientific research and publish journal articles throughout his career. He obtained his medical degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. in 1994. During medical school, he was also a Summer Research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed a General Surgery internship and residency at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2002. During his general surgery residency he was a research fellow in the Division of Plastic Surgery at UCLA/Veterans Administration Medical Center. After completing his training at UCLA Dr. Heffel served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at UCLA where he performed general surgery and specialized in Bariatric (weight-reduction) surgery. Dr. Heffel pursued advanced training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. While in Miami, Florida, he performed reconstructive surgery for patients with congenital problems and for patients following trauma, cancer treatment, burns and massive weight loss. There, he was also trained by some of the leaders in aesthetic surgery. He completed his fellowship in 2005 and then went into private practice in the Los Angeles area. All good surgeons should make their patients a priority and make their patients feel as comfortable as possible with a potential surgery. Dr. Heffel is no different. He understands that facing a surgery, whether elective or not, can be a stressful situation. He is very patient and will take the time to answer all your questions and make sure you understand the nature of the surgical procedure, its potential risks and complications.
