Am I Hungry? Mindful Eating Programs and Training Organization

  • About Us
The Am I Hungry? Mindful Eating Program for Bariatric Surgery (https://amihungry.com/programs/mindful-eating-for-bariatric-surgery) is designed to prevent, identify, and resolve the maladaptive eating habits and emotional eating issues that commonly lead to problems after bariatric surgery. It’s STILL Not About the Food! Everyone agrees that bariatric surgery is a tool, not a quick fix. If you have had (or are considering) gastric bypass, the band, or the sleeve, mindful eating is an essential tool in your toolbox! The Am I Hungry? Mindful Eating for Bariatric Surgery Program offers a non-restrictive, mindfulness-based approach to the hundreds of decisions you make every day that affect your eating, activity, and self-care. Although it’s a deceptively simple question, asking "Am I hungry?" opens the door to a greater understanding about why, when, what, how, and how much you eat, and where you invest your energy. Mindful eating can help you address maladaptive eating habits including: Eating too quickly, taking large bites, or not chewing thoroughly Eating mindlessly while distracted, leading to over-consumption Not savoring food and therefore having difficulty feeling satisfied with small volumes of food Eating too much, leading to discomfort, vomiting and/or distention of the pouch Grazing throughout the day and/or eating “slider” foods and high-calorie soft foods and liquids Struggling with emotional eating Not consuming enough protein or nutrient-rich foods Feeling guilty, deprived, or left out in social situations Struggling to establish consistent, joyful physical activity Difficulty adjusting to life after bariatric surgery Live the big, vibrant life you crave! If you are like most people who make the major decision to have bariatric surgery, you have tried (almost!) everything else first. That typically includes various forms of restrictive diets, hyper-vigilance, and fear-based motivation to try to gain control over your eating. Since willpower if a limited resource, it becomes harder and harder with each passing day. Since the vast majority of diets don’t adequately address why you eat in the first place, ultimately, nothing really changes. When the diet ends (and it always does), you go back to doing what you did before. You feel guilty and blame yourself, even though a negative, superficial approach is destined to fail. So, you try another one. We call it the eat-repent-repeat cycle. You hope bariatric surgery will finally be the answer. But without the additional tool of mindful eating, bariatric surgery can feel like a permanent diet that continues to consume your life. Am I Hungry? is different. Using a simple model called the Mindful Eating Cycle (as described in the Am I Hungry? Bariatric Surgery Set https://amihungry.com/marketplace/bariatric-surgery-set), you’ll learn how to be in charge of your eating decisions without restriction, deprivation, or guilt. Learning to eat mindfully allows you to think about eating when you need to and free up your energy and attention to focus on living in between! (We also train health and wellness professionals who wants to help others learn life-changing mindful eating skills.
