UT Methodist Physicians Weight Management and Wellness Center Hospital
YOU LOOKED VERY YOUNG, BUT HER CREDENTIALS ARE EXCELLENT AND SHE IS WARM AND INTERESTED IN ME AS A PATIENT. THE OFFICE IS REALLY BUSY BUT THE WLS CENTER IS REALLY NICE. ONE OF THE NURSES SHARED HER EXPERIENCE ABOUT HAVING THE SURGERY. THE WLS CENTER HAS A GREAT PROGRAM THAT HELPS TO PREPARE YOU FOR AFTER SURGERY. THE AFTERCARE PROGRAM OFFERS SUPPORT GROUPS AND EVEN 1 FREE MONTH AT THE YMCA LOCATED ON THE HOSPITAL SITE. THE WLS CENTER IS REALLY STRUCTURED WITH NUTRITION CLASSES AND ALL; I HAVE GAINED SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE DURING SURGERY PREPARATION. MY DR. OFFICE AND STAFF ARE RELLY GOOD WITH THE PATIENTS AND I AM VERY COMFORTABLE WITH THEM. I THINK THAT SURGICAL COMPETENCE IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT BECAUSE I AM HERE FOR THE SURGERY; BESIDE MANNER IS GOOD TO, BUT I HAVE PLENTY OF PEOPLE TO PAMPER ME.
I WAS A PATIENT OF DR ALSTON AND HE RECOMMEND THAT I SEE DR MCGRATH-WEAVER. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH HER AND I FEEL CONFIDENT ABOUT HER. SHE IS VERY EASY TO TALK TO AND I FELT VERY COMFORTABLE WITH HER AND HER STAFF. ONE THING I LOVE ABOUT HER IS THAT SHE GIVES THE OPTION OF LAPROSCOPIC AND I DIDNT HAVE THIS OPTION BEFORE. DR MCGRATH-WEAVER ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS WHILE SHE WAS TALKING TO ME,SO I HAD VERY LITTLE I HAD TO ASK HER ABOUT. I FEEL SHE IS A GREAT SURGEON AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO MY SURGERY.
I am awaiting an appointment with Dr. McGrath - I have received approval from United Healthcare Choice Plus. The program she works through at St Francis Hospital in Memphis is outstanding - they were terrific in getting all of my info gathered and sent in to the insurance - the pre-op nutritional classes are awesome and I know that Dr. McGrath has had great success with surgical outcomes so I am ready to go!
Dr McGrath was wonderful...she has admiration for obese patients and her team are just as great. She is helpful in answering questions and motivating you to do the best in the program you can do...and gives you the resources to do it. She has scheduled my monthly visits to her office for the first year and then yearly as well as the Weight Loss Center at St Francis for weigh-ins, diet modifications, lab work, etc. This is a very important part of the program that I had to agree to before surgery! She reviewed the entire list of risks, benefits and options to this procedure. I would rate her a 10 on a scale of 1-10...I knew each day I was in the hospital that she would be there in the a.m. to see me and she was there pre-op in holding to make sure I was good to go and ready for this. This was a very good surgery experience for me based on previous experience and is not reflective of other patient opinions.
I haven't exactly met Dr. McGrath yet, however her office staff seems very nice. I have spoken with both the receptionist and the Nurse. Both seem very nice and helpful. My surgical consult is scheduled for June 1st. Her program is very comprehensive and I feel that it is set up to make everyone succeed.
In a word, she is FABULOUS!! Professional, knowledgeable, fantastic bedside manner. One of the reasons I chose Mr.McGrath-Weaver is because she is the only surgeon in Memphis that did a year fellowship in Bariatric Surgery. She came highly recommended by other physicians and this says something. Her staff is great - her direct assistant had her perform the procedure a few months ago and is doing beyond well. The staff is always willing and ready to answer questions and they never get impatient; same goes for Dr.McGrath-Weaver. There is nothing bad to say about this surgeon - only positive. She is so conscientious that if she thinks the procedure can be tweaked, she does it and presents her findings in a medical paper at conference. To Dr. McGrath-Weaver, it is all about the best possible results in the surgical process for the patient. Yes, there is an aftercare program and one of the nurses and the staff nutrionist are always willing to walk with you if you need a walking partner. Though my procedure is not for another two weeks, I am in touch with the staff nutritionist about proper eating before the surgery. Everyone on the staff is there for the patient - always. Dr.McGrath-Weaver goes over the surgical risks in detail so everything is upfront. Questions are answered in a patient manner. I think both competence and bedside manner are important and she has both. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest, well, Dr. McGrath-Weaver is off the charts. I am scared to have the surgery, but scared not to have it, too. This woman is the only surgeon in this city whom I feel comfortable letting touch me for this major of a surgery. Yes, I have given a 100% positive review - I have tried to be informative and I hope there is nothing suspect about my review. This is truly how I feel - I have researched this procedure and doctors here in Memphis for 13 months. I am beyond confident and comfortable using her. My husband is a physician and he is giving me his blessing with this surgeon. Therefore I respectfully disagree that no one person an be the "best" in all aspects - this surgeon is to me or I wouldn't be using her. June 8th, 2004 here I come!! <g>
My impression of Dr. McGrath-Weaver is that she is intelligent, knowledgeable about her specialty and most important - confident in her surgical abilities. She claims over two hundred LAP surgeries since she was trained in the procedure. Even though I have only had one interview with Dr McGrath-Weaver,I am satisfied that she has the talent and know how to operate successfully on me. If there is any "down side" to Dr McGrath-Weaver's talent or abilities, it was not evident in this one interview.
Dr McGrath-Weaver is supported by a well trained and compassionate bariatric dietitian - Ginger H. Armistead MS,RD,LDN - who provides an execellant pre-op dietary class that is mandantory for all of Dr McGrath-Weaver's patients. Along with nutrition, the other aspects of bariatric surgery were stressed, such as the potental dangers of leaks, infections and blood clots in the legs etc. There is also a lengthy post op program that all patients are strongly encouraged to participate in. I will be able to present a more complete evaluation after the surgery and am into the post-op program.
Dr. McGrath ROCKS! She is so caring and understanding and very knowledgeable about Lap procedures.
Her staff is Grade A. Ginger, Leslie, Jeanette, and Rene really know their stuff. The nutrition classes that Ginger offers really make this program! The risks were explained thoroughly to me, but because this program is so advanced I was not the least bit worried.
She is very nice and thorough. She came from a hospital on the forefront of lap SX and she actually taught the bariatric SX at that hospital. She was recruited to St. Francis they wanted her so badly. She emphasises the TOTAL program. Nutrition classes before the SX, and aftercare. She had to open me up, and said that my SX was the most difficult she ever did but I had no complications from SX. She is excellent, a great lady. She explains everything very well, and will answer any questions you have. I like her very much.
I Love Dr. Weaver! And her staff is top notch! Everyone is a joy to work with. They are all kind, considerate and knowledgeable. Dr. Weavers program is far above any other that I have looked into. The nutrition training and follow up is exceptional and Dr. Weaver is an excellent surgeon. She will tell you she tries to do everyone Lap but will not hesitate to do open if she has to. She is very good at explaining everything and she is very experienced.
