Hi Folks, rn My first impression of Dr. Kligman, aka Dr. K was that he is all business and straight forward with every patient. He pulls no punches which is exactly what I wanted. rn My impression changed for the better since I've been seeing him for over two years now. He has become my general surgeon for hernia repair and he is wonderful. His selfconfidence is very comforting.rn Dr. K has the best office staff and support personnel that any doctor could ask for. Mary B., his nutritionist is very knowledgable about the program Dr. K developed and requires you to follow and is compassionate and cares deeply for all of their mutual patients. Nadja, his nurse and practice coordinator is also very knowledgable and caring of all patients. If ever you have any questions, they are all right there ready to take care of you. They absolutely know their stuff. rn Sometimes Dr. K can be brutally honest and that can hurt your feelings, but really his honesty is what I like the most. After all we're not hiring him to be our best friend we are hiring him to be our doctor and to be the most knowledgable in his field. rn Future patients should know that when they become patients of Dr Kligman they become patients for life. He remembers each and every patient he sees from one office visit to another and above all knows if you have been following his program by the bloodwork he requires and by the weight you are losing. You cannot fool him no matter how you try and I wouldn't recommend trying.rn Dr. K emphasizes aftercare I think more than the surgery its self. The surgery is a wonderful tool and is a minor part of the weight loss journey, but following the whole program is the key to optimum weight loss. He has done extensive research to develope his program and has come up with the best possible senario to acheve the most weight loss possible in the first year after surgery.rn Dr. Kligman has always been very up front about the risks of Berriatric surgery. When a patient developes a complication, and I'm one of those patients, Dr. Kligman asks that we share every experience, good and bad in our monthly support group meetings. This way there is an open door to everything that can happen on your journey to good health. Since I have had some complications one related to the weight loss surgery, and one not related that I am currently dealing with, he has given me his complete support and has made sure that I get the best care possible. Even with these issues, I have still been able to overcome these obsticals and I am still so much healthier for having the Ro-in-Y surgery. I wouldn't change a thing.rn Honestly, from rescent personal experience, I would not trust any other doctor but Dr. Kligman to perform general surgery of any kind on me from now on. He is the absolute best in the field and cares deeply for each and every patient he sees. He is a great advisor and absolutely one of the smartest guys I know. He is a former trama surgeon which plays a huge role in my choice for a surgeon since being morbidly obese is such a health risk to begin with you never know what can arrise during any surgery. His surgical competence is 100% and his bedside manner is about 90% and improving. As I expressed, he is very straight forward with you and sometimes that can offend people if they are more used to being coddled. He is not a coddler, but he wants you to succeed, and when that happens you realize how great his program is. It is totally life changing and I would do it again in a heartbeat!rn I had my Ro-in-Y surgery on September 19, 2006, I weighed 305, I've lost 167 pounds, 150 in the first year and I have never felt better in my life.rn Frankly, I will be Dr. Mark Kligman's cheerleader 24/7. The great thing is you get the whole package with Mary B. the nutritionist and Nadja his nurse and all of his staff at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

The hospital staff that I came in contact with were the most knowledgable and compassionate people you could ask for. Dr. Kligman taught them well.

I am two weeks post op and Dr K was my surgeon. If you chose him for your RNY you are in EXCELLENT HANDS! He is amazing. His staff is incredible especially Nadja, I just adore her. And then there is Mary B his nutrionilist who is also amazing. It takes a team to make RNY successful and they truly have a great TEAM! Dr K is very upfront with you in regards to what he expects from you both before and after surgery. This is because he wants you to do well.rnI attended SEVERAL seminars in Maryland with many other surgeons, Dr K tells you to at the seminar, that is how confident he is within his self and his work. He says \"Go attend other seminars and compare, do your homework\". I did that and none of them gave me the amount of information I got from Dr K's seminar. None of them made me feel as comfortable either. So my choice was made to go through with my RNY with Dr K as my surgeon. It was the BEST decision I have ever made. The first week at home was rough but as of today I would do it all over again. Dr K is a very competent surgeon with excellent credentials. He works out of University of Maryland also which was another selling point for me because that hospital is AMAZING!!!!! Its no wonder they make the top 3 list of hospitals in the Country every year. They are wonderful there. Best of luck to everyone considering RNY!!! I would highly recommend Dr Kligman and his team. ;o) ~Jilly~

My first impression was is was very direct and to the point, and that he takes his job very seriously, and wants the best outcome for his paitents. I found his staff to be very helpful and friendly, and knowledgeable. To be very truthful there is really nothing that i don't like per say about him. If you wnat some one that will be a push over and not hold you accountable for the things you need to do in order to be sucessfull with your weight loss, then Dr. K is not the person for you. He has no problem with calling you to the carpet for not holding up your end of the bargin. From the very first meeting Dr. K and his staff keeps you informed as to what to expect, they make sure that you have all of the necessary numbers needed for emergencey's. He walks you through this process step by step and makes sure that you don't feel like your in this by yourself. Dr. Kilgman was a God send, I would and do reccommend him to all that are considering weght loss surgrey. I need galbladder surgery and would not let anyone else do it But Dr. K. You've got to have tough skin to tolerate his bed side manner.

Dr. Kligman was very up front in sharing the pros and cons of his surgical procedure and the options that existed. He and his office staff have excellent patient skills and should be a comfort to those who have an uneasy feeling about doctors and hospitals. UMD Hospital in Baltimore is an excellent hospital and has an equally excellent record for minimal complications. rnrnIf you are contemplating surgery, I wish you success. I also caution, that Dr. Kligman can surgically do what it takes to make your success possible, he cannot make you a success. If you don’t plan to or are concerned that you cannot live a very new and different life style, don’t put yourself through this.
