United Regional Healthcare Systems Duplicate Hospital
The admission floor the morning of surgery was awful. The nurses did not introduce themselves, many did not have name tags on to help identify them. I was very nauseated and vomiting from, I presume the mag sulfate and was there for 5 hours before they finally called for an order for phenergan and started fluids. My husband had to insist quite firmly on this before they took action. The OR staff was interesting. The lady that transported me to the OR was very friendly, however once I arrived in OR holding the staff never looked me in the eyes. They barked out questions while they thumbed through my chart, and one nurse even argued that I didn't look "big enough" to be needing the surgery. I assured her Dr. Warnock would not agree. The PACU nurses were very good. I know they had their hands full as my IV infiltrated and I remember screaming in pain from lack of pain medication. They worked quickly to get another line established and some pain meds on board and I appreciated their work very much.
As for the floor nurses, I had excellent nurses at night always. Carol was very concerned for me and took great care of me. Also Danny (I believe he was days)seemed concerned that I was not using my pain medications frequently enough. And to the nurse that pulled my JP, God bless you honey, you deserve a medal!
I think because I was on an ortho floor, the nurses did not really understand exactly what to do with me. My IV fluids were dc'd a full 24 hours before I was able to begin taking fluids by mouth and I have since wondered if that was not a nursing mistake. I was extremly behind on my fluid intake by the time I started sipping, and for a new bariatric patient, it is very hard to catch yourself up. Fluids should have been emphasized more in my case. Overall I think this was an average hospital with the usual nurses working there. Those that are really good, and those that did just enough to get by. But I appreciate the hospital working with me financially so that I could have this surgery done, and I was not harmed in any way while I was in their care.
I was surprised by the new added wing for the Gastric bypass patients and found this to be wonderful. It was great to have nurses who were use to dealing with us and encouraging to see others in the same boat walking the halls with me. The nurses were kind and responded to my every need in a friendly and timely manner!
