Stanford Hospital
The hospital overall was a nightmare. I would never knowingly go back to be subjected to the kind of (lack of ) treatment shown at this establishment. It is ranked as a center of excellence, but I would never give it even a fair rating. Ity was horrible and dehumanizing. The staff ignores you needs and in my case nearly let me die while they gossiped outside my door. At no time was I accompanied when I went walking. No one would help me get in our out of bed immediately following sugery. When I had the leak test the xray people were surly and threatening. It is a cattle herding station where people are less than what gets wiped off your shoes in a barnyard. They are concerned only about the money, not the patient. It is overall a disgrace to the medical profession to have such as this allowed to go on.
I had a great experience here
My experience in support groups, presentations, meeting with surgeons and other bariatric staff has been incredible.
The mortality rate is 0% and an extremely low post-op infection rate. These things are incredibly important to me in selecting a surgeon and a hospital.
The careful approach to the surgery and the seriousness with which they screen patients, help to make lifestyle changes and work to give the absolute best care to patients gives me a great deal of confidence in them.
In addition I've learned that Stanford does about 10% of the country's bariatric surgeries.
The director of bariatric surgery is incredible, compassionate, kind and extremely cautious and intelligent. The clinic staff is very supportive and wonderful as well.
