St. Vincents East Medical Center Hospital
I must say that being a patient in this hospital was the best experience I've ever had as a hospital patient. From the people who prepared me for surgery to the surgeons/doctors, to the nurses that attended me post-op - EVERYONE was so nice and concerned for my every need. This hospital has got it RIGHT. They were somehow able to strike the perfect balance between attending my every need and not disturbing my rest. They were quiet at night and respectful of my hospitall room privacy 100% of the time - no barging into my room to get vitals every 15 minutes. Someone quietly checked in with me EVERY SINGLE HOUR, but they were careful not to disturb me if I was sleeping. The hospital was extremely clean and there were no yucky smells at all - which is a big plus for my sensitive nose. I couldn't have had a more pleasant hospital stay. It is no wonder they have been designated as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence (COE) - the highest honor in weight loss surgery programs. Thanks St. Vincent's East!

I was leery about having to use St. Vincent's as I had heard some not so good stories from people who had been there but I had too since that's where my Doctor had to do my surgery. The pre-op, the surgery and the post-op in the Recovery room were all just great. It was as if once I was put in my room, I was forgotten!!!!! I consider myself a very good and easy patient. I don't ask for much but whatever I did need, took MULTIPLE calls. One morning I woke up in excruciating pain and began asking for pain meds at 5am. It was not until my husband came to see me at 10am, that I finally got some medication. It took 5 hours with multiple calls and no one came until my husband went to the nurses station and physically got someone. My pain was so bad that I ended up staying an extra day so the pain I was in was not easy to bear for over 5 hours! My first meal was big and had sugar in it. I had just had BARIATRIC SURGERY! When it came time to leave, they brought a wheel chair that looked like they got it from the Pediactric Dept. It then took over an hour to wait for a bigger chair. I wouldn't recommend St. Vincent's to anyone and I panic when I hear one of my friends or their family is a patient there. They advertise themselves as a very caring facility but the ONLY person that was good to me was a nurse that had rotated in from somewhere else to help and the head nurse on the floor was yelling at her so much that she came into my room crying. I will never ever go back to St. Vincent's voluntarily. I'll have to be old cold and not know that I'm going there otherwise I'll always pick somewhere else. I have had 3 surgeries at Babtist in WLR and 1 surgery at St. Vincent's NORTH and I would go back to either one of them in a heartbeat!
