Saint Francis Hospital

I got great care and the nurses and doctors made me fell special and cared for.Love St.Francis Hospital in Tulsa Oklahoma
I had a great time at St.Francis during my short stay. The staff was kind and very helpful , and when I came back from surgery they had my meal ready for me when I woke up from recovery . outstanding job StFrancis

With my RNY, the folks on 9 West were wonderful. This is the bariatric floor. They responded quickly to my needs and were very supportive. When I had to go back to the ER for vomiting, the staff didn' t really understand my recent RNY. I had to have a CT scan and the ER nurse told me to "just gulp" the contrast media. A) I had been admitted for nausea and vomiting and B) My pouch would not take "gulping". I sipped for what I think was about 3 hours and got half of it down. The tech who did my scan was great. He taught me an easier way to get up, breathing out while he helped me to a sitting position. The surgery crew was great both times, can't say a bad word about them. When I returned to the floor, the staff on 8 West (the general surgery floor), the had a BiPap machine waiting in the room. I told the nurse just to take it out, I wouldn't use it and didn't want to be charged for it. I guess she saw me as a non-compliant patient and really treated me as such. I explained that I never used my CPAP at home since my apnea was mild to moderate. She took what seemed like forever to get my pain med when I asked and never got me any ice, water, etc. My husband did all that for
me. Luckily, she was only there until the night crew got in. Everyone else was very kind and supportive. The next morning, they brought me scrambled eggs, a danish, milk and orange juice for breakfast. I am glad I knew what I was SUPPOSED to be eating 5 days post-op! I had my husband, once again, get me some diluted juice and ice. I was glad to be discharged that day!

Because the hospital did not have any "monitored beds" I was told - I never did get a room. I was put in some care unit. There were 2 nurses and a lap band patient and myself. I was so upset the entire time I was there. My husband and son were never allowed to see me after I left recovery. I didn't get to see them either. They waited till 7 p.m. at night and finally went home. Some lady said they could not come back where I had been moved to. Also, all the new things I had packed in my bag never were of any use to me. My husband was not allowed to leave them for me. He took everything home with him, including my partial front tooth and eyeglasses. I had no phone, television, not even reading materials, even though I told the nurses I wanted something to read. I could not sleep. I asked to use the phone and was allowed once or twice. After that, other patients began coming in and I was completely cut off from being able to contact my husband and friends and letting them know how I was doing or what was going on. They said they couldn't remove my catheter because the bathroom was too far away and they couldn't take me to it. Finally, after many hours, I was so frustrated and bored, I started to get up myself to go find a phone. At that time, they got a woman to take me for a ride in a wheelchair. This woman told me she was giving me the hospital tour, although the ride consisted of back hallways. Just before we re-entered the unit, this woman opened a door and there right close to where I was being kept, was a huge magazine rack. Apparently, neither of my nurses cared to walk the short distance to get me something to read. I was so disappointmed about the whole experience. I even had to change to go home in a bathroom with a toilet and sink....I sat on the toilet to change my clothes.

If you are planning your admission, things are great, but if you ever have to go through the ER, I would caution you to choose another hospital if at all possible.
