Regional West Medical Center (COE) Hospital
I was very happy with the hospital and the staff. The extremes they went to to supply cost effective housing for my husband during my stay, which was longer than normal. Also the fact that he was given daily discount card for his meals in the cafateria. I would recomend this hospital to anyone needing a hospital.
Only one VERY BAD nurse,LPN(Sharon). The mop water you use for two days( because you can't drink anything)That's what she handed me to take oral meds. But that wasn't before she lifted the toilet seat, dumped my urine cup and NEVER washed her hands.Somebody better check out this lady. She has NO IDEA what keep things clean means. She ruined my Whole stay there.Alittle more listening when you ask a question would help the nursing staff. The staff out front, was great, they acted like they had ears.
I think the doctors themselves are very nice, and very skilled in what they do. I had no hitches, whatsoever, with the surgery.
It does seems there are individuals around these two very skilled and truly nice MDs who lack the ability to see someone else's point of view and are easily threatened.
Having said that, all of this is my personal opinion. and add to that, experiences here on this website of all type of name calling and mud slinging and threats of bodily harm. This only reinforces what I have come to believe about those who are involved in this.
I spoke with some other relatives who have been to this hospital who live in NE. They had nearly the same experiences that I did at this hospital.
I know one person there that I think is wonderful, and that is Mona Urwin the bariatrics coordinator there. She's great. I like Mona, and it made a big difference that she was there. and I consider her of utmost professional manner. Contact her if you think you want to have any bariatric surgery in Scottsbluff. But be warned about the others.
When more people start coming to this hospital for lap band surgery, from other places, it might be interesting to see if the staff continues to act the same (in my opinion) shameful way with other strangers, the way they did me.
Those who love this hospital might want to consider that other people have different experiences, and differing opinions about what is OK and what is NOT OK.
Threatening to "knock some one out" is NOT OK, and I believe,in my opinion, is likely illegal to threaten someone who is straight out of surgery.
In my opinion, there are at least two dynamics going on. One is a lot of overweight people have addictive personalities. Substance abuse is substance abuse. Then there are those (on a different level) who "service" addicts. They also are addictive personalities, and seem to me to be very heavy handed in their dealings with the substance abusers. No matter what these secretaries, clerks, and RNs say, they are part and parcel of how addicts deal with each other, and part of the addiction cycle. It's no accident these control freaks (and in all fairness there are those who are not control freaks, unfortunately these are the folks I ran into, there) are in the positions they are in, in my opinion.
Of course we all have to keep our antennae out for the good people!
I'm not part of the hatred I've run into, here. It just surprised the heck out of me that these women are so ANGRY!!
I really like Drs. Holloway and Forney and highly recommend them for their superb skills and professional manner. There are people around these two truly wonderful people whom I would caution you about.
They might/will character asassinate you in at the drop of a hat, if for some reason you don't "YES" them. Proceed with caution!
(This is the voice of experience, and I have a right to voice an opinion here, in the most objective manner that I can, for the good of others who may go the same route I went).
this hospital is excellent ( for a first timer) the staff and Dr. were very caring and gentle. They gave my husband a beeper so he could be kept informed as to what was going on, and talk to the Dr. after surgery. Knowing Mona was there was a BIG help. Dr. Holloway is a very skilled surgeon with a great bedside manner. A few weeks prior to my surgery they became a Center of Excellence
Every single person in this hospital knew what my procedure was going to be like and could answer all of my questions. When I had an emergency after I came home, I went to a hospital in Omaha because it was close. They had no idea what type of procedure I had been through and ended up giving me a liter of medicine that killed nausea. The opening from my stomach to my intestine had swelled almost shut so I was not receiving anything which made me severly dehydrated. I immediately left that hospital and drove 8 hours to Scottsbluff. The people there were EXCELLENT! They ran a couple of tests and told me exactly what happened and what they were going to do for me. Soon after, I felt like a brand new person. I really do owe them so much! I hate to think of what might have happened if I would have listened to the other hospital.
