Porter Hospital
I only had to ask for more drugs once after surgery and they gave it to me very quickly without delay. They also did not bother me much, even doing vitals per doctors orders was easy and usually didn't make me wake up. They were not pushy or cold. One nurse in particular was so friendly and gave me a TV with a VCR for my hubby to bring movies for me. Everyone was very nice. Only one CNA who was clueless and offered me Pepsi and a shower before I was allowed to shower.
Most nurse were great and if you ask when you check in they will try to get you a private room. They did not have surgar free jello, though, which was a problem for me. Everyone seemed to generally care about me. In the pre-op check in, the person giving me the EKG noticed I didn't really want to do it and she said "We'll making it as comfortable as possible for you. You're doing a good thing for yourself."
they did not do hs care, that bothered me. I needed help right at post op, and the aides did not even bring me a tooth brush, but the RN's were excellent.
I had visited a friend after her surgery at Swedish and was amazed by the differences. The primary one being that each surgery patient has his or her own room, TV, and heat/cool setting. It's hard to really control your own temp when your door is open most of the time, but it's a start. I was just amazed at the work the folks in 3N do and how respectfully they treated all my requests, no matter how trivial. Since you are alone, they don't really enforce the visiting hours and each room has a direct line phone that anyone can call 24 hours a day. The nurses kept a steady tab on me without being obsessive. I was only woken once or twice a night and fell right back to sleep. Since most of us don't choose our hospitals, I was very lucky to have been forced to go here by my insurance. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
