Northridge Hospital Medical Center Hospital

My stars indicate my opinion when I had my lap-band installed. For the first year after that, everything was OK. Then my band developed a leak. Everything went downhill after that. After several visits with Dr. Kokallera to diagnose the problem, I thought it would be repaired in a timely fashion; since it was a defective device. Instead of making the manufacturer stand behind the repair, and all related costs; the Dr. wanted my ins. co. to pay for it. This started a process that took almost a year. In the mean time, my program went off the rails; due to my weight re-gain, and the result aggravation to my pre-existing depression. Ultimately my band was repaired, but the damage to my program, and confidence in Dr. Kokalerra, had been done. Our relationship became frosty; and shortly thereafter, Northridge Hospital closed their weight loss program. I was thrown out on the street. My wife (who also had a band installed there) and I have drifted for the last 3 years. After considerable research, we have landed at the office of Dr. Quilici in Burbank, CA. What a difference. These folks really know what they are doing. They are a Center of Excellence in bariatric surgery. We wish there had been better research information available before our first experience; we would have gone to Dr. Quilici instead. I had always considered Northridge Hospital to be a good place, but they blew it for me on this experience. I am now looking into a revision to a gastric sleeve, as the band didn't really show too much promise anyway when it was working. My weight loss program has been delayed by several years in between because of the incompetence of Northridge Hospital.

Oh my gosh where do I begin, Dr. Kokkalera and his staff are awesome! I went in convinced that I wanted the lap band but I walked out requesting the gastric sleeve. Dr. K. was so patient and explained all of the procedures thoroughly. I walked out of there confident in my decision and now seven weeks post op if feel terrific, I walk forty-five minutes three times a week which I never would have done before I feel so healthy my coworkers can't believe how healthy I look. The staff at the hospital were very helpful and made sure I was comfortable. My husband was allowed to stay in the room with me which was a big help, I really needed him because I was an hour and a half from home and missed my family. But, I can't forget to mention Dr. K's nurses Kai and Hanna they are fabulous too. Kai went to see me everyday in the hospital she is so encouraging and called me a few times after I went home and Hanna greets you with her great smile I can't say enough about them. I highly recommend this great group including the hospital they make such an awesome team!!!

I really enjoyed the staff and their compassion. Not only did I meet with the occupational therapist I also met with a hospital representative who came to make sure that my stay was comfortable. I am so impressed with the Weight Loss Surgery Center they are really professional and knowledgeable. Dr. Lyass and his nurse Kai were exceptional. I would recommend this facility to anyone who is thinking about bariactric surgery in Southern and Northern California.

My overall stay was very good. My night nurse I had both nights was Christina and she was amazing!!! I can't say enough great things about her. She is caring, efficient, thorough, and quick to respond. The day time nurses were also nice and efficient. They just seemed so busy that it took a while to get someone to respond to me at times. I had to ask a few times to get help up to walk. Overall, everything was great.

My overall experience with Northridge hospital was fantastic! My room was huge, and they were very helpful. The nurses were seriously they BEST!! I loved the 4th floor nurses! :) they made sure I was comfortable at all times, and had everything I needed. oh and they were all wls savy..so that made things excellent!
