Munroe Regional (COE) Hospital
The staff were very nice - pre op procedures were wonderfully respectful and not frightening at all. Post op care was very good - there was only one night where the team seemed less inclined to assist - but the rest of the time was fantastic. They encouraged me to get up and walk around and were interested in making sure I was o.k..
The room itself had an urine odor that was extremely unpleasant - while I was there they were reviewing the situation and acknowledged that the carpeting in the rooms makes it difficult to keep odor-free. The hospital is currently being renovated, and they have plans for different flooring in the upcoming year.
This hospital was the worst ever, the nurses were non existant, took a few hours to get anyone to come to my room to help me do anything, took 3 hours to get ice chips even, took over 2 hours to get someone to unhook me so my hubby can help me get out of bed to walk, y'all know how important that is, they seemed not to care at all. Also the bathroom looked like it had feces on the toilet when I had a private room and nobody had used it.. when I complained to the nurse, refusing to use it like that, she said,"what do you want me to do about it?" finally I had to call patient advocate to complain about it, they said housekeeping would come and clean it, but when they left it was still there!! they did not clean it at all!! I finally complained to the chief of surgical nurses about the treatment, or lack of, that I got and the next morning housekeeping finally cleaned it for real... this is unexusable behaviour to me..I recommend that nobody who wants any nursing care DO NOT GO TO MUNROE REGIONAL!! I also wanted to add that I insisted in post op that I wanted a psa pump for my pain med. I was told that my doctor did not use them, I told them to call him because I didnt believe them, they brought one a few minutes later.. this was the absolute best thing I could have done because with the way the hospital staff was, I would have been suffering hours while waiting for my pain medicine..at least I was able to give myself the pain meds and so that made it alot better for me..I would recommend that anyone going for this insist on having it, it saved my life!!
first part of the stay was excellent!! nurses and techs were wonderful. as the days went on, the nurses were slow, loud and uncaring. put a damper on the whole stay. they needed to be reminded on a regular basis of letting me walk, eating. i feel the uninfomative nurses need a "inservice" day for the types of surgeries the hosptial does. the last day nurse didn't even know that i was going home with 2 drains she thought one of the drains was a foley cath!!! this was the same nurse that 50 minutes later finally got pain meds!!
From the moment of my arrival to the day I left, I was treated with the utmost respect. I could not have "asked" to be at a better facility. Everyone I came in contact with tried to do everything in their power to make me as comfortable as possible, and I might add, they did. Would recommend this hospital and its staff to everyone.
